Historique de la conservation

Captain John Anson Ingersoll, 1850-1937, owned a grocery and dry goods store in Seal Cove with his brother James and Henry Fraser. It was called "Ingersoll Brothers and Fraser. He later bought out his partners and the store was renamed "J. A. Ingersoll & Son". Captain John was involved in several types of fishing businesses as well. His son Colin Isaac, 1877-1960, joined his father in running the family business. In 1938 Julius Ingersoll became a partner with Colin Ingersoll. After WWII, Kenneth Ingersoll joined his father Colin in the business. In the early days, the upstairs was open to the public as well as downstairs, where they sold clothing and especially hats. Around 1956, the store closed. Julius Ingersoll re-opened it at some point and later sold the business to Brantford Cronk who operated under the name "Cronk's Grocery". The Cronk's sold the building to the Docken family.
The Docken family donated the records to the Grand Manan Museum on February 4, 1992 after they had purchased the building where the Ingersoll businesses had operated for decades. One Ledger was donated by Dale Ingersoll - son of Julius Ingersoll - on August 28, 2009.
