Biographical history
A barrister, Henry Barlow Brown practised law in St. Andrews, New Brunswick. Having loyalist sentiments, he arrived in 1776, taking refuge from the war in the American colonies. Henry Brown and his wife Rebecca Appleton had one son, Thomas.
Henry was registrar of deeds for Charlotte County. He also did clerical work for Joseph Garnett, a lawyer and clerk of the peace. After Joseph Garnett's death in 1800, Henry B. Brown was appointed deputy surrogate (Judge of Probate) under Edward Winslow. He held this position until the end of 1808.
Henry Brown was a charter member of the Friendly Society, a social, literary, and religious society started by the Rev. Sam Andrews in 1803 at St. Andrews.
Henry B. Brown returned to the U.S. in 1811 and settled in Vermont.
