Painted by Wesley A. Griffin in the middle to late 1920's. Owned by Marjorie Small who donated it to the Grand Manan Historical Society to be added to their permanent Art Collection July 2007.
Scope and content
This item is an original oil painting by Wesley A. Griffin. It has a wide homemade frame. The painting is on canvass that is stretched and nailed to a homemade frame. The painting shows a woods scene with a brook and a pool of water reflecting the fall colors. It is signed W. A. Griffin in the lower right corner on the front of the painting.

General note
Wesley Griffin (1880-1935) born on Grand Manan, he studied at the Los Angeles School of Fine Arts and the Art Students League in New York City, where he later taught. In 1926-27, he traveled abroad, studying and painting in Italy and France. As well as seascapes and sailing vessels, he was effective with portraiture, capturing fine nuances of concentration and emotion on the faces of ordinary people who lived in his native Maritimes.
