History

Geoffrey Stead was born in Brooklyn, New York, 1872, son of Thomas Stead of Surrey, England and Adele Arden (Brown) Stead. He married Alice Elizabeth Joyce in Toronto, 1905. They had three sons and two daughters.

Geoffrey Stead and his family came to Saint John in 1876. He was educated at the Saint John Grammar School and the University of New Brunswick (1892). He worked in civil engineering on various railway and municipal works in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and the United States. He entered the department of Public Works in Saint John in 1900; transferred to Chatham in 1902; was appointed district engineer for the Northern and Eastern District of New Brunswick, 1904; and worked for T.H. Estabrooks Co. Ltd.
