Biographical history

Thomas Saunders was born in Wales in 1800, and emigrated to New Brunswick in 1819 or 1820, settling at Cardigan, in the parish of Douglas, York County. This community was created in 1819 by Welsh families from Cardiganshire, who arrived in New Brunswick aboard the brig "Albion." Saunders remained at Cardigan from 1827 to 1833. He was baptized by immersion in 1825. In 1833 he married Sarah Thomas (1811 or 1812-1875), and they had at least nine children: David S. (b.1834), Rachel (1835-1894), Samuel (b. 1838), Elizabeth (1840-1870), Thomas G. (1842-1907), James Alexander (b. 1845), Mariann (b. 1847), Benjamin (1849-1903), and Joshua Mills (1852-1891).
