Robert Harry Mills is a graduate of Moncton High School. He entered Mount Allison University in the fall of 1950 and graduated with a BA in 1954. While in attendance, he sang second tenor in the male quartet, was a soloist in the production of Elijah and had a leading role in the production of Gilbert and Sullivan’s Ruddigore. He directed the Theologue Choir for two years and spent two summers in the Chaplain Corps of the Canadian Officers Training Corp (COTC). He was the business manager for the Allisonian yearbook and served as an assistant minister at St. John’s United Church in Moncton, New Brunswick. Following convocation he went to Pine Hill in Halifax, Nova Scotia to become a minister. Ultimately, he was appointed the Executive Secretary of the Maritime Conference of the United Church in Sackville, New Brunswick. He also served as a General Secretary of the Canadian Council of Church during 1996-1997. He was married twice. His first wife was Karen Barbara Keirstead (1932-1991) (MusA – 1952). They were married on 29 December 1953 in Saint John, New Brunswick. The couple had five children: Deborah, Katrina, Michael, Stephen and David. He later married Helga Irene (Kutz) Harder (1934-2019) on 1 July 1995.
