History

William T. Reid was born in Salt Springs, Kings County, New Brunswick in 1863. He married Margaret Campbell, and they had a son Ivan William, born 17 February 1898. The Reids made their home in Clintondale, New York where William T. worked as agent for the Clintondale railway depot. After William's death in 1899, Margaret and Ivan W. returned to New Brunswick, although she retained property in Clintondale. In 1904 Margaret died, leaving her son Ivan W. in the care of his maternal grandfather James Campbell.

During the First World War, on 12 June 1916, Ivan William Reid joined the Canadian Expeditionary Force, serving in Canada, Britain, and France. He received an honourable discharge on 26 May 1919, and on 23 July 1919 he married Gladys Rebekah Allaby at Southfield, N.B. The same year he purchased a farm with assistance from the Soldier Settlement Board.

In addition to farming, Ivan Reid was active in the Masonic Lodge, Canadian Legion, and Hampton Curling Club. For many years, he served as a county councillor and a school trustee. He was also involved in the purchase and export of Christmas trees and blueberries to the American market. Ivan Reid died on 2 February 1973 in Saint John.
