Brill family

This fonds consists of family records including David Brill's appointment as captain in Queen's County militia, 1795, and returns of his company, 1801. There also the wills of David Brill, 1825, and Stephen Thomas, 1826. Deeds for sale of property between family members, 1806 and 1844 are also included.

Queens Own Lodge No. 96, British Order of Good Templars fonds

The fonds contains the minute book of Queens Own Lodge No. 96 Order of Good Templars from 1866 to 1881 and the minute book of Queens Own Lodge No. 184 from 1886 to 1889. Minutes record installation and expulsion of members, and sometimes note the talks and social activities following the meeting.

There is a financial secretary's ledger (1930-1933) which records the payment of dues by individual members. There are some loose financial records, an undated charter of the lodge, and the script of a short temperance play or skit. There are also 2 rule books, the "Blue book for the use of subordinate divisions of the order of the Sons of Temperance", 1857 and "Ritual for the subordinate lodges of the Independent Order of Good Templars", 1894.

The fonds documents Dr. Malcolm MacDonald's medical practice at Cambridge, Queens County over several decades. It consists of account books, dating from 1865-1915, that contain the name of his patient, the type of treatment (medical, surgical, obstetrical, dispensing of medicine or extraction of tooth) and the fee charged. Also included are miscellaneous notes, letters, bills, and advertisements found in the account books.

This fonds consists of the records of the Second Cambridge Branch of Women's Baptist Missionary Aid Society,1870-1914, and of the Second Cambridge Baptist Sabbath School (Narrows), 1866-1887. The Women's Baptist Missionary Aid Society records include photocopies of the constitution and by-laws, minutes of meetings (1870-1892), and of a membership listing, dating from 1870-1914, that includes entries for deaths to 1962.

The manuscript records of the Sabbath School include a record book containing minutes of meetings, names of scholars, names of subscribers, and notes regarding concerts and other activities; attendance sheets (1881, 1887); a concert programme; and 2 published copies of "Visitor Lesson Quarterly" for October 1881.

The fonds consists of 4 photographs of Thomas' military commissions as captain of militia in Saint John (1783) and Queens County (1787), and as major and lieutenant colonel of militia in Queens County (1795). There is also a biographical note, dated 19 May 1906, including date of death, age at death, birth place, positions held, and notes about Henry Thomas.

Hugh B. Hay fonds

This fonds consists of appointment diaries in which Dr. Hugh B. Hay recorded his patients' names, the reasons for their calls, and the amount to be charged for services. There are volumes for 1914 and 1931-1941. It is unclear who continued to make entries in the volumes for 1940 and 1941 after Dr. Hay's death. Possibly, they were used by a family member or by the individual who was responsible for settling Hay's business affairs. A number of entries in the 1941 appointment diary deal with payment of bills, accounts, rent, mortgages, and notes, and other business transactions.

A receipt for goods purchased by Dr. Hay from M. Kane, a statement of account owing to H. B. Hay from [William] Brock, and a promissory note for $30.00 signed by Gordon and Arthur Miller in favour of H. B. Hay are also included.
