Archives provinciales du Nouveau-Brunswick
Established in 1967, the Provincial Archives of New Brunswick collects and preserves the documents of the people, institutions and government of the province. Most of the holdings are for the period from 1784, when New Brunswick was made a separate province of British North America. However, some materials relating to the earlier exploration, Acadian and pre-Loyalist periods have also been acquired.
Under provincial legislation the Archives has responsibility to assemble, and to make available for research, records bearing upon the history of New Brunswick. The Records Management Program ensures the regular transfer and archival retention of all non-current government records that have permanent legal and historical value. The records of individuals, churches, businesses and associations are acquired through donation of original material, and loans for copying.
Monday-Saturday: 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Closed on Sunday, statutory holidays, Easter weekend (Good Friday through Easter Monday), New Brunswick Day (first Monday in August), and Remembrance Day (Nov 11). Hours may change during the Christmas and New Year period.
Researchers complete a registration form on their first visit to the Archives, and sign the visitors' register daily.
Request slips are used to obtain documents for research. Material will be brought directly to the researcher at any time throughout the day.
Documents and reference works must be consulted in the Search Room and other designated areas; they may not be taken out on loan.
Restrictions may apply to both government and private records.
Archival documents are fragile! Handle them with care.
In displays and publications, please acknowledge the Provincial Archives and cite the applicable references.
Parking: Space is available at the side of the building. Please request at the front desk a parking permit to place in your car window.
