Biographical history

Moses Pickard Sr. settled at Maugerville on the St. John River, New Brunswick, in 1766. He was a blacksmith by trade and a farmer. He married Jane Saunders in 1742. Their children were: Humphrey (b.1743), who was also a blacksmith; Hannah (b.1744); Jane (b.1746); Amos (b.1749); Mary (b.1750); Abigail (b.1752); John (b.1754); Lydia (b.1759); Elizabeth (b.1761); Moses (b. 1763).

Moses Jr. married Eleanor Brill (1771-1850), daughter of Jacob Brill, in 1792, and their children were: Samuel (b.1793); David (b.1796); Hannah (b.1797); Joseph (b.1798); Mary (b.1800); Moses (b. 1802); Lydia (b.1806); Jane (b.1807); Amos (b.1809) and Jacob (b.1811).

Custodial history

In care of the Pickard family until Gerald Keith found them in 1951.

Scope and content

This fonds consists of Pickard family receipts, deeds, bonds and accounts and newspaper clippings of a series of articles about the Pickard papers written by Gerald Keith in 1953 and updated in 1975. Included with the fonds is the record of meeting of inhabitants of Maugerville in 1770.
