History
In 1902 Bedford Crossman built a three story Carriage Factory (63’ x 25’) for Blair Taylor, on Main Street, Sackville, NB. In 1907, local businessmen incorporated to start The Sackville Paper Box Company. They purchased the Taylor building and began factory operation with Azor Wentworth Davis [b. 5 March 1862, d. 10 November 1944] as foreman. He had worked previously for the Brown Paper Box Co. in Saint John, New Brunswick. In 1918, A. W. Davis took over full control of the Sackville Paper Box Company with his two sons, George Wentworth Emmerson Davis [b. 13 November 1892, d. 8 February 1977] and Ernest Daley Davis [b. 5 November 1896, d. 13 September 1979]. A. W. Davis designed and made boxes for many Maritime shops, including Henderson and Cudmore, T. Eaton Co., Hayward and Warwick, and La Salle Confectionary. A.W. Davis also designed a berry box that was patented in 1937. After the death of Azor Davis in 1944, his son G. W. Emmerson Davis ran the factory until his retirement in the 1960s.
