Biographical history
Born in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, 4 November 1899, Olive Nola McElmon was the daughter of Elledge H. McElmon and Sarah May McCullagh McElmon. She attended the Mount Allison Ladies' College ca. 1920-1921. In 1927 she married Frederick F. Hill, of Saint John, New Brunswick, and moved to the United States.
In later years, her husband became curator of the Mariners Museum, Newport News, Virginia, and she was a director. Nola did much research on marine china and ships. She also lectured, on such subjects as Staffordshire china and Columbus. She also wrote many articles some of which appeared in magazines such as "Antiques" ( New York.)
After Nola and her husband retired in 1955 they moved back to Nova Scotia, settling in Great Village, where she wrote several articles for the "Atlantic Advocate." At the time of her death, 29 January 1970, she was writing a book called "Building of the Mariner's Museum." She was a life long supporter of Mount Allison University and attended several reunions.
