He married Henrietta Vye (1873-1968), the daughter of Catherine MacDonald and George Vye, and they had at least one child, George Harold Lutz (1893-1964). George H. Lutz served as a soldier in England and France during the Great War. He married Cassie Leighton Hay (d. 1948) in 1919.

Albert J. S. Lutz was involved in the real estate business in Moncton for approximately 50 years. In his leisure hours, he enjoyed boating, and, at one time, he was a member of the committee of management of the Digby Yacht Club. Lutz owned at least one sailing vessel, "Regina," which was built at Saint John in 1899. Albert Smith Lutz was living at 32 Highfield Street in Moncton when he died on 27 August 1939. He is buried in Elmwood Cemetery, Moncton.
