This collection consists of technical books, papers, and manuscripts documenting the history of the electrification of Grand Manan. The ledger documents the installation of wires to individual locations and then maintenance at that location. The ledger used was a telegraph ledger but the entries are all for 'Electrical Works'. The ledger was used from Oct. 1929 to 31 Jan. 1930. Also included is an NB Power Museum Kit, acquired in 1990, which contains a history of the electrification of the Province of New Brunswick. There is also an NB Power calendar for 1994.
This collection consists of personal journals, correspondence and other materials. The business and personal letters were written by and to Allan Moses, his sister Sarah, and Sarah's daughter, Florence Smith. There are many letters from Allan's trips to the Belgian Congo and the South Atlantic. There are stories by Sarah Moses Smith written for the Lewiston Journal, including handwritten and typed manuscripts and drafts, many incomplete and several copies of the Lewiston Journal, 1906-1923. There is also a scrapbook kept by Sarah Moses Smith and large black and white display photos of Allan Moses.
This collection contains diaries and reports of weather, visitors, the times when the light was lit and turned off, and the length of time operating each day. The records were kept by the Grand Harbour lighthouse keepers from 1949-1960. There are also blank forms of Hand Horn or Fog Bell Returns.
This fonds consists of a "Record of Sales" book dated April 1917 - July 1918. Entries recorded are person's name, purchases - listed with price, and the items marked 'paid' and 'copied'. There is no name of the person who recorded the information nor is there any record of who was operating the store at the time of the creation of the Journal.
This fonds contains correspondence; membership lists; financial records and statements; publications; news clippings; and programmes of activities created in starting and operating the Grand Manan Historical Society.
The collection contains correspondence and publications about the geology, ornithology and biology of Grand Manan and particularly the marine invertebrates. There is also material relating to conservation. Some of the correspondence discusses the display of natural history specimens in a museum. There are also brochures, pamphlets and books from various natural history organizations, published between 1853 and 1995.
This collection contains tintypes, dating from 1875 to 1920. It also contains many studio photographs mounted on cardboard and prints on photographic paper. There are also photo albums that have tintypes and mounted photos. Many of the images are scenes of Grand Manan Island.
This fonds consists of Clarence Newton's cash book, 1897-1898, listing all assets of the company and their location and value. Also included are the Newton Bros. Ltd. account books, 1950-1954 listing account details and payouts for expenses and salaries incurred in operating a store. The purchase journal lists the names of suppliers, the cost of stock and shipping, and expenses related to stock.
This fonds contains one account book, receipts and notes from an interview regarding the company Whale Cove Weir Company on Wood Island. The ledger records expenses incurred in the operating of a fish weir from 1888 to 1889 - the labor costs, nets repair costs, purchase of stakes, and dividing of profits to owners.
