Saint John General Public Hospital time capsule

This fonds consists of records dated 1929-1930 about a range of subjects including the construction of the hospital, its reports, the Training School for Nurses, Women's Hospital Aid and General Public Hospital Nurses' Alumnae. There are also the pharmacopoeia of General Public Hospital, 1927, a parchment volume listing boards and departments, newspapers and the blueprints of the General Public Hospital.

This fonds consists of printed ephemera, an annual report for 1942-1943, and 4 bound scrapbooks for 1905-1918, 1923-1929, 1929-1932 and 1939-1948. The scrapbooks contain pressclippings, advertisements and internal notices, forms and publications. The subjects include the administration of the store, staff policies, records of employees and renovations at the store as well as articles about business and economic trends, especially in Saint John.

The fonds consists of a diary kept by John R. McCulley during service in the Boer War. It includes a description of the voyage from Halifax, Nova Scotia. in February 1900, daily life aboard ship, arrival in Capetown, South Africa, and troop movements from March to December 1900 as well as details of the return voyage to Canada. There are some names soldiers killed in action and names of wounded, including the nature of their injuries. There is mention of outbreaks of enteric fever, including the author's own, place names such as Bloomfontein and Pretoria. There is a list of dates, with South African locations or engagements and remarks which were taken from the official record of the 1st Battalion, Canadian Mounted Rifles plus a few other facts pertinent to this unit including numbers of wounded and killed in action.

The William Lusk Webster collection, with the exception of a few personal papers and the items collected by Ralph Hewson (the Webster family lawyer and a local historian), covers the years after Dr. Webster's return to Shediac (1950). The collection includes correspondence and notes on the Fort Beauséjour Museum, Shediac; Acadian history; and the New Brunswick Museum. There are land grants and transfers with related notes and correspondence.

The material assembled by Ralph Hewson includes the school register of Fort Lawrence, 1878; assessment records from several polling districts, 1870-1873; lists of officers of Cumberland County, 1874,1881,1883; and financial records of St. Andrews Church (Pointe-du- Chêne), 1866-1812. Also included are records and correspondence of the New Brunswick Museum Foundation, 1949-1971 and personal papers of William Lusk Webster, 1920-1974.

Turner family

The fonds consists of shipping, business and family papers of the Turner and Reid families of Albert County, New Brunswick. There are shipping papers of the brig "Sherwood" including accounts, correspondence relating to the ship and its cargo. The shipping papers of the "Kesmark" include accounts with firms worldwide for ship provisions and equipment and correspondence relating to shipping. Various types of documentation include quarantine regulations, health certificates, surveying certificates, customs documents, manifests and a list of ship's stores (provisions).

There are discharge papers for seamen giving names and dates, and also a few names of crew signed on in Lubeck. There are ship's log books, including one dated 1890-1891, for a return voyage from Hillsboro to Newark, New Jersey, and others for voyages abroad.

Family correspondence includes letters written between Turner family members both in Canada and aboard ships sailing to destinations in Europe, South America, and the United States. Among other family papers are 3 diaries kept by Lottie Reid Turner in 1879, 1881, and 1883 while aboard ship. There is a Turner-Reid genealogy and the marriage certificate of Lottie Reid and James B. Turner. Also included is a petition to classify the school at Harvey as a superior school.

This fonds consists of shipping, business and family papers of the Brown and Marr families of West Quaco. The shipping documents relate mainly to the vessels "Saguenay", "Lepreau", "Savannah", "Lancefield", "Kelverdale", "Lizzie C. Troop", and "Kate F. Troop" and their captains, Elisha Brown and Omar P. Brown.

The family papers include correspondence, accounts and ephemeral items. Some of the letters were written by family members from ports in Britain, the West Indies, South America and the United States while on their voyages."
