Fonds Clément-Cormier

Le fonds atteste principalement de la carrière dans le monde universitaire acadien et canadien dans lequel évolua son créateur pendant un demi-siècle. Le fonds est constitué de cinq séries : papiers personnels (1875-1987), correspondance (1975-1987), activités professionnelles (1940-1987), photographies (1887-1987) et enregistrements sonores. Il est composé de la correspondance échangée avec le monde des affaires, les hommes politiques canadiens et le monde universitaire. Y figurent aussi d'importants dossiers de la Commission sur le bilinguisme et le biculturalisme canadien dont Clément Cormier a été membre. De plus, le fonds contient des notes de cours du père Gérard-Henri Lévesque (1938-1940) professeur de l'École des sciences sociales à l'Université Laval. Il contient aussi des centaines de documents inconographiques, photographies, diapositives, bandes sonores, cassettes et vidéocassettes portant sur l'Acadie et ses institutions.

The fonds consists of a roll of enlisted men of the 115th Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force, in 1915 with additional notes. The roll records regimental numbers, full names, addresses, date and place of enlistment, names and addresses of next of kin, which company the man belonged to and whether he was transferred to another military unit. There are also handwritten lists of officers (one appears to be a draft) and typed lists of local casualties with their regimental numbers, names, unit and serial numbers.

This fonds consists of Frederick D. Foley's military appointment as a lieutenant, 1915; his death certificate; a personalized commemorative scroll and a memorial from King George V, both honouring the war dead.

There is also a postal card addressed to Mrs. Violet Foley of Loch Lomond Road, from Frederick, dated just 23 days before his death, letting her know a letter would soon follow.

Violette family fonds

This fonds consists of personal, business, financial, and legal records relating to the Violette family, particularly, A. J. Violette and his sons, Émile and Léonard.

It includes personal, business, political, and military correspondence; telegram message booklets; certificates; licenses; and insurance policies. Business and financial records include an account book recording liquor sales; one account book each for the woodworking factory, Len's Service Station, and the Brunswick Hotel or Hotel Brunswick (wages); statements of account and balance sheets for The Hammond hotel; bills charged to the various businesses; receipts; and pages from the register of the Hotel Brunswick.

Legal records include deeds, contracts, agreements, a bill of sale for the schooner "Grace & Lou", and documents relating to violations of the liquor acts. There are also pamphlets, booklets, and posters pertaining to rationing or recruitment of men and women for service in the Second World War. Finally, this fonds includes: "The Premier Speaks to the People, The Prime Minister's (R.B. Bennett) January [1935] Radio Broadcasts" (3)

Fonds consists of Photocopies of photographs: Saint John and Sussex Detachments of 2nd Contingent. Hussar Officers of the 26th Battalion in 1914. Regiment training at Valcartier and staff at Shorncliffe. Also includes an original bound copy of Records of Service for 1910-1920. 5 photocopied pages of General Orders for Tank battalion and Machine gun corps, one photocopy of General Orders 1918 re organization of Canadian Tank Corps. Also includes a pamphlet of Canadian Cavalry Association By-laws. One page photocopied from Canada Gazette listing Appointments, Promotions and Retirements in 1918.
Photograph of Canadian Army setting sail October 1914. Included are photographs of officers and men and a photograph of regimental Billets in Belgium, 1915. One pamphlet on the Vimy Ridge Memorial. Cablegram and postcard from J.A. Bain which includes his pay book and service book from 1917. Typed copies of letters written by soldiers, together in a binder. Original Certificates, pay book, berthing card and 2 handwritten notebooks from Sgt. R J Stapleford which includes numerous photographs acquired by him. A original copy of cartoons from the "Bystanders Fragments from France" and a copy of the story of the Fourth Overseas Siege Battery from 1914-1919.

Doaktown Red Cross Society Fonds

Contains the Minutes of the Doaktown Red Cross from its establishment on October 8, 1939 until February 17, 1947 and monthly "Reports of Women's War Activities", December 1943 - June 1946 (7 reports). Included are regular summaries of the number and type of item being made or collected and sent to Saint John. Overall, indicative of a very strong war effort by a dedicated group in a small community.
