Jackie Gibson Collection

This collection contains correspondences, documents, photos, and other types of material related to Joseph and Effie Gibson and their descendants. Most of the correspondence in this collection concerns Joe Gibson, a Royal Canadian Air Force pilot and oldest son of Joseph and Effie Gibson. Many photos of him and his crewmates, his letters home from overseas, as well as his schoolwork and notes from leaning how to fly an aircraft are also included in this collection. Several items which concern the affairs of John Gibson, Joe Gibson’s younger brother, can be found in this collection. These include correspondences and legal documents related to the estate of Charlotte Gibson, his sister, as well as an agreement between John Gibson and the Canada Railroad Company concerning interest and his land. Most of the personal items and published material in this collection belonged to John Gibson as well, these include publications related to his position as a volunteer firefighter, reports of organizations he belonged to, maps of the Town of St. Andrews, notes related to his work as a stonemason, and other items.

Orders

The series contains military orders which include E. Jacqueline Davis while she served as a nurse at Cushing General Hospital in Framingham, Massachusetts. These military orders can include other nurses and personnel. The different types of orders in this series includes leaves of absence, one of which is to visit St. Andrews, NB, reassignment, promotions, and travelling for temp duty. There are also a few letters in this series, such as the letter which appointed Jacqueline as a reserve nurse in the US Army, a request to notarize legal forms before her active duty commences, correspondences with an insurance administration concerning her life insurance, and a letter requesting that she come to the Army’s headquarters in Massachusetts for a physical. A few other miscellaneous textual documents in this series include a certificate that Jacqueline has no property accountability or other obligations at her current station, a document which lists regulations and other information a recently recruited nurse would need to know, a voucher for per diem and travel expenses, and a certificate of completion of the basic training course for Army Nurses.

This collection contains textual material related to veterans of World War I and World War II from Charlotte County as well as news related to veterans and Remembrance Day events. Most of the items in this collection are newspaper articles, which include news stories, editorials, reprints, and obituaries related to Charlotte County veterans or Remembrance Day events. Also included are promotional documents and pamphlets from the Royal Canadian Legion, Veteran’s Affairs Canada, and the War Amps. Lastly, a piece of correspondence between the Charlotte County Archives and Veteran’s Affairs Canada is also included.

This collection contains articles published in the St. Croix Courier which were part of a series written by F.E. McConvey titled “In-Laws, Outlaws, and Kinfolk”. This series of articles was dedicated to genealogical research into the families of Charlotte County, New Brunswick. Articles could provide advice to readers on how to conduct genealogical research for themselves, but could also contain the results of other people’s genealogical research and the stories of how that information was found.
