This fonds consists primarily of the administrative records of the New Brunswick Teachers' Association. It includes minutes of the NBTA Executive Committee meetings (1919-1968), of the NBTA Annual General meetings (1922-1978), and of the NBTA and New Brunswick Teachers' Federation Board of Directors and Executive Committee meetings (1969-1977).There are also copies of reports and briefs (1958-1966); a partial membership list (1919-1920); and copies of several publications, including "Association Activities" (1971), "Nouvelles NBTA/NBTA News" (1969-1971, 1996), "NBTA Newsletter" (1963-1966), "Educational Review" (1889-1970), "Manuel de la NBTA" (1967), and the Association Subject Council publications (1967-1983).

Also included is a copy of Eric D. MacKenzie's 1971 UNB master of education thesis, "The Historical Development of the New Brunswick Teachers' Association" and a copy of A. M. Anderson's 1946 essay, "A History of the New Brunswick Teachers' Association."

Rothesay Collegiate School fonds

This fonds consists of administrative and printed records of the Rothesay Collegiate School, now known as RCS Netherwood.

There are five student registers, covering the years 1891-1978, as well as issues of the school's magazine, "Blue and White," for most years between 1906-1981. Also include are photocopies of the Reverend W. R. Hibbard's and William Thompson's correspondence pertaining to the history of the school. The student registers are available on microfilm.

This fonds consists of an account book of personal and family expenses, 1847-1885, belonging to Dr. William Brydone Jack. There are also photostatic copies of a letter from Dr. Jack to Benjamin R. Stevenson, Surveyor General of New Brunswick concerning measurement of the meridian line through Fredericton, 14 October 1874. There is also a copy of a certificate of appreciation from the University of New Brunswick on his retirement in 1885.

Dr. Alfred Goldsworthy Bailey

This fonds consists in large part of the official records of the various offices Dr. Bailey held during his career at the University of New Brunswick from 1938-1970. There is a large amount of material relating to his extensive literary contributions, including articles; manuscripts, published and unpublished books; and records from his editorial role in "The Literary History of Canada". There are also some personal papers and a small number of family papers.
The fonds is divided into 15 series:

  • Series 1 - University Committees, including the Creative Arts Committee and the Arts Faculty Committee, 1956-1958;
  • Series 2 - Arts Faculty, 1932-1966, including records of the Arts Faculty's activities;
  • Series 3 - Literary Works, 1806 - 1990; predominant 1923-1979, including published and unpublished writings, notes and records about and by his family. The series also includes photographs and correspondence with literary colleagues including Malcolm Ross, Roy Daniells, Elizabeth Brewster, Michael Gnarowski, Carl F. Klink and Jack McClelland. There is also some correspondence between Bailey and Lord Beaverbrook and between Loring Ewart Bailey and W. Ganong and George Parkin;
  • Series 4 - Miscellaneous 1946-1979; predominant 1968-1979; including bibliographies, records of Founders' Day (UNB), the Loyalists, and the Canadian Writers' Federation;
  • Series 5 - Graduate Students, 1943-1959, consisting largely of correspondence with graduate students in the History Department;
  • Series 6 - Library ,-1959 ; predominant 1948-1958, including correspondence and other records about the operations of the Library.

This fonds consists of 2 autobiographical manuscripts written by Ernest L. Flewelling: "Summary of the Life and Times of Ernest L. Flewelling, B.A., B.Ed.," (2 copies) -- copy 1 ( 21 pp.) and copy 2 ( 24 pp.). The genealogical material in these manuscripts differ as well as the introductions and; "E. & L. Flewelling Scholarships for Vocational Research," (11 pp.) It includes a discussion of E. L. Flewelling's educational philosophy.

Leo C. Ferrari

This fonds documents the academic activities of philosophy professor Leo Ferrari, particularly with respect to his studies of 5th-century bishop, philosopher and doctor of the church Augustine of Hippo. It also documents his activities as president and primary spokesperson for The Flat Earth Society (FES), an organization founded to encourage critical thinking and restore confidence in the validity of the senses. In addition, this fonds reflects Ferrari's interest in human rights issues.

It includes incoming and outgoing correspondence, notes, research material, draft and published copies of books and articles, bibliographies, and conference programmes. In connection with The Flat Earth Society, it includes letters from applicants, membership lists, tractates, photographs, copies of The Official Chronicle and The Official Organ, cartoons, newspaper clippings, brochures, and financial records. It also contains a reel-to-reel audio tape of Ferrari speaking about the FES and a VHS videotape entitled "In Search of the Edge". Artifacts include a smashed globe, maps of the world in various shapes, framed membership certificates, and a wooden gnome holding the sign "Repent! the Edge is Nigh".
