This fonds consists of 10 ledger books. The ledger books recorded: date, the office the telegraph passed through check list, address, to what place, signature, from what place, number of words, total cash, other office checks, this office checks, and shows fees. There is a file folder containing the loose telegraph messages from 1920-1929 and 1930-1931.
The collection contains a DVD performance recorded by Alison Thomas of actress, Deborah Davis performing as Lady Ames. In 2012, the Rotary Club of Grand Manan held it first cultural auction, and Deborah Davis offered her presentation "Lady Ames Comes to Tea" as one of the items. The performance shown in the recording took place in a North Head living room. Lady Louisa (Kennedy) Ames, as well as her husband Sir Herbert an all the people mentioned by Deborah, actually lived or spent holidays on Grand Manan in the 1940's [and 1950's.] There is 1 cm of textual documents and photos - original and copies - of the summer of 1952, when Mt. Allison students, Ann Thompson and Gertrude Robertson Fillmore, were summer employees of the Ames. Gertrude and Ann contacted the Grand Manan Archives in 2012 and offered to write their memories. The file contains their writings and donated photographs.
This log book contains entries from the voyage of the Brig. A. V. Goodhue in 1862 from New York to St. Michaelina. In 1866 the book was used by Ruth Larkin as a scrapbook for poetry and notable quotations. A reference was found for the ship in the New York Times Archives, 4 February, 1865 page 8 - listing the ships in the harbour that day.
This fonds contains one scrapbook and an envelope of newspaper clippings all pertaining to fisheries issues on Grand Manan or in the Atlantic Provinces. There are two posters advertising for the government wanting to purchase fish and fish products.
This ledger appears to have been used by multiple owners. The inside cover has "H. C. Seely, St. John, NB August, 1879" written. The beginning of the book has alphabetized pages with non Grand Manan names probably from the St. John business. Then the ledger was used from 1882-1889 for various accounts. Pages have been cut out of the book as well. Some of the Grand Manan connections are: Island Press, James Pettes 1885, Church of Ascension Accounts, Post Office, Sunday School 1904.
This ledger contains the accounts of people living on Grand Manan. Inside the back cover is an attached index of all accounts in the book with their corresponding page numbers.
This ledger contains columns listing bills and credits to businesses that were supplying stock to a a grocery store from 1947 - 1955. In 1948, on page 192, there are entries for the purchase of dulse, an edible seaweed, from local workers called pickers who picked the dulse off the beach rocks at low tides and then dried it and sold it. Pages 207-408 are unused. The last page before the back cover has a few memorable quotations recorded.
This fonds contains family genealogy records on Ganong, note books kept by Alice as a teacher for elementary schools on Grand Manan in Castalia and Grand Harbour, scrapbooks of cards and valentines with small family photos throughout the scrapbooks, Eugene Somers 'Tractor and Equipment Training' binder with his tests and correspondence while doing the course, loose black pages of an old family photo album with local scenes and soldiers in uniforms and group photos of ladies all dressed in white with black chest sashes/banners with the letters"GC"on them while out on excursions, ca 1900-1930's, one color photo of Ganong relations in 1980, Eileen Somers school records and obituary bulletin.
This fonds contains correspondence; sales statements; 2 tidetable books, 1925 and 1938; several entries of business interests other than fishing or boat building; and papers occurred in the building of a new house in 1940-1942; records and memorabilia from Gleason Green's membership in the Knights of Pythias Lodge and his travels to Scandinavia, Newfoundland, St. Pierre, Iceland, and the Magdalene Islands.
