A. D. Stevenson Fonds

  • 1860-1882

The papers of A. D. Stevenson were found in upper attic of the Masonic Hall with those left there by his cousin Benjamin R. Stevenson. The latter was at that time Judge of Probate and had in his possession documents from many estates. Although it covers only a short period of time, from 1867 to1871, and is of less importance than some of the other estates in the Stevenson collection, it is the most extensive. The documents consist almost entirely of business papers. However he left a small diary kept during 1866, the year of the Fenian raids. This contains interesting though brief references to the general feeling in St. Andrews at that period. The diary also contains frequent notes on the price of gold suggesting that he was dealing in that commodity.

Estate Papers

Series consists of one release item, a ledger account book, one inventory of goods for the 3rd of August, 1871, and one bond to B.R. Stevenson from the administratrix of A. D. Stevenson and Harrison Thompson.

Insurance Policies

Insurance policies from Phoenix Assurance Company, North British and Mercantile Insurance Company, Imperial Insurance Company and Aetna Insurance Company to A. D. Stevenson and two to Mr. Charles Stevenson and three to Thomas W. Harrison.
