This item is a painting of the Dark Harbour waterfront showing the northern tip of the dyke and the northern cliff face. The painting is done as a summer scene with lots of greens.
This item is a framed poster, behind glass, of the ship THE ESPERANTO, that won the International Fisherman's Race in 1920. The Columbian Tape-marked Pure Manila Rope company had the posters made. The image is mostly black and white with a little color on the flags, masts, and below the waterline. The sails are all up and there are many people standing on the deck. The frame is plain wood painted green. There is a water stain at the very top of the image.
This item is a framed enlarged photograph of an unknown man. The image is black and white with a green fiber matte. The matte has water stains on the lower quarter of the matting. The frame is painted a pale green. There are thin boards like lathes for the backing. Between the cracks in the boards there is newspaper visible with a Feb 1902 date for an upcoming event, leading estimate age of photo as ca 1900.

This item is a framed color print of the "Arrival of S.S. 'Britannia' in Halifax Harbour,,, July 17 1840 Inaugurating the first regular Steamship service across the Atlantic". These words are written along the bottom of the image but do not appear to be on the color print. The image shows the ship hauling in her sails as she approaches the pier filled with people dressed in fancy clothes , wearing top hats and fancy bonnets. This appears to be a print of a watercolor. The frame is painting with a gold metallic paint and has a glass front. Information pages from Wikipedia about the Britannia are in the finding aid.
"Lighthouse Keeper's House 1930's", Seal Island
This item is a painting of the lighthouse keepers house on Seal Island, NB. The painting shows a storey and a half white house with a black roof. There is a veranda on the front of the house. The house has 2 chimneys. The house sits on green grass with a blue ocean in the background and land on the distant horizon. Hand written on the back of the painting is "Olsen, Grand Manan, NB, Seal Island house" and "1957 H.C.M." There is a white typed label on the back as well reading: 70. Morgan, Tom, Lighthouse Keeper's House, oil on fiberboard, 12 x 15, 1930's, loaned by Mr. Herb Macaulay". This numbered tag is similar to other tags we have seen from art shows held on the island or from the early years of the Grand Manan Museum. The "1957 H.C.M." could be Herb Macaulay loaning it in 1957 before the tag was attached but this date pre-dates the museum by 8 years.
McGill Medical Class 1898 with Dr. John Francis Macaulay MD on Grand Manan Island, NB
This item is a class photo of the McGill Medical Class of 1898. Each student is dressed in their gown. The individual images are in a small oval with their name below their photo. There re 3 photos of buildings inset among the people images - The Medical Building, the Montreal General Hospital, and the Royal Victoria Hospital. There is a wide mat inside the glass. The dark wood frame has carved molding son the inside edge and the outer edge. Dr. J. F. Macaulay, who was a Doctor on Grand Manan, is in this class.
This is a solar print enhanced with graphite and /or crayon. This type of work was done between the 1860's to the 1930's. The portrait is of a man about 20 - 30 years old, wearing a dark colored suit. He has a very long dark bear and mustache.

This item is an oil painting showing a dirt road in a field with a house on the edge of the water. There are a few trees. The title tells us it was the Ingersoll House on the Pound Road. The Pound Road is in Woodwards Cove, Grand Manan, NB.
This item consists of one map titled "Map of Grand Manan and Adjacent Islands, NB ca. 1809, showing stars on lands granted, heights of cliffs at western side of island, roads and brooks noted." This map is a blue print copy of MG 514 - showing Grand Manan Island, NB. There is no date established but the granted lands are marked with a star and indicate the period 1809. Each land grant shows acreage. This map indicates height of cliffs on western side of island as well as brooks and roads. Outline white with coastal beaches and tidal areas noted .
