This fonds consists of records pertaining to the proposed construction of stone buildings at Miramichi, Northumberland County, New Brunswick. Included are the specifications for a guard house, cook house, privies, and well [1827]; a letter addressed to Captain Douglas, Fredericton, from G. Graydon, Captain Royal Engineers, dated at Fredericton, 11 July 1827, enclosing these plans for a subaltern detachment at Miramichi; an estimate for the barracks at Miramichi; and a hand-drawn architectural plan of the proposed subaltern barracks by G. Graydon, dated 1827.

This account book includes entries on half-pay; business transactions in grain, lumber, foodstuffs, shoes and boots, rum, tobacco, and other goods; and exchanges of labour. It also includes receipts of payments made on accounts and brief entries relating to voyages of the trading vessel the "Mary Salter," specifically, the dates she left and returned to Nova Scotia and her ports of call. Entries are written in several hands other than Robert Salter's, one possibly being William W. Salter's.

The fonds contains the business records of Michael Samuel and his sons, Michael Jr., Joseph J., William E. and Samuel G. A few records relate to the partnership of John Joseph and Michael Samuel, and a number of letters were written to Michael Samuel, Sr. by his nephew, businessman Jonah Samuels of Dalhousie, N.B.

The fonds consists of correspondence; accounts; invoices; orders; receipts; bills of shipping, lading, and exchange; and a few legal records, including agreements.

This fonds consists of correspondence between members of Richard Hocken's family, including relatives in England; business correspondence; and other financial records. Some of the businesses and businessmen included in the correspondence are: Arthur and Company, Dr. Staford Benson, John Burke, Chatham Reading Club, J. S. Farlow, Woodward and Farlow, Sophia Joseph, Thomas Kingston, Masonic Hall Committee, Ritchie Brothers, Michael and William Samuel, Steeves Brothers, Gilbert Steeves, and C. C. Turner.

William Wilkinson fonds

This fonds documents the personal and professional activities of William Wilkinson. It includes incoming and outgoing correspondence; insurance policies; and receipts, bills, invoices, agreements, bonds, and affidavits relating to legal cases he handled as either a lawyer or a judge.

Also included are case files dating to the years he practised law as well as legal documents pertaining to cases heard in the Supreme Court of New Brunswick or in the County Courts of Gloucester, Kent, Northumberland, Restigouche, Westmorland, or York.

A few letters and legal documents pre-date Wilkinson's birth. They probably resulted from the activities of his business associates, Archibald Murchie or John M. Johnson.

McCarthy Family

This fonds consists of McCarthy family correspondence and accounts (1867-1912). Most letters prior to 1900 are between the siblings, but also include correspondence from other individuals regarding payments. The families correspondence provides insight into life in New Brunswick and parts of the United States and reveals how close knit the family was. Their letters deal with a variety of topics, including cholera, education, working in the woods, staple supplies, legal issues, and visits to family members. After 1900, most of the letters are between members of the next generation, especially Patrick McCarthy's children. These letters discuss work in the timber industry, leisure activities, the winter weather, and family news. This fonds also contains records of the families accounts, an inventory of John McCarthy's estate (1892) and a penmanship book belonging to Patrick's brother-in-law, George Smith.

This fonds consists of the business records of John Fraser and his sons, Albert J. Fraser and David Fraser. It includes ledgers, day books, receipts, and accounts relating to the store at Black Brook (Loggieville), as well as accounts for David Fraser's fox ranching business. Also included are a court summons addressed to Albert J. Fraser and a few documents relating to the issue of price controls during the Second World War.

Kathleen Willis Williston collection

This collection consists mainly of research notes and writings by Kathleen Williston and others. Her research notes reveal her particular interest in the early history of the Miramichi and surrounding area and its people, the Acadians and First Nations. The remainder of the collection consists of copies of records (with some originals) collected by Mrs. Williston from many sources, several of them relating to the Anglican Church. There are also some originals of early printed publications about the Church.
Included among the latter records, but not limited to them, are the following: Madras School in New Brunswick, 30th Report, 1849, and The 6th Annual Report of the Fredericton Institute for the Education of the Deaf and Dumb, 1889.

St. Mary's Chapel-of-Ease (Chatham : Anglican) fonds

This fonds contains the administrative records of St. Mary's Chapel-of-Ease and of its various groups and associations. It consists of a register of confirmations (1887), registers of services, record books of contributions, and a record book of loans. Also included are minutes of the Parochial Guild and Women's Association, the Women's Association (senior and girls' branches), and the Rural Deanery, as well as a treasurer's book for the Women's Association (girls' branch) and a few pieces of correspondence relating to the Deanery. The register of services for 1921-1964 also contains entries for St. Paul's Church. Architectural plans and drawings of St. Mary's Chapel-of-Ease were transferred to the Map Section.
