The Loyal Orange Association

This contains records of the Loyal Orange Association in Kingston, New Brunswick. The Kingston lodge was a branch of the Boyne Orange Lodge, a section of the Orange Order. The Orange Order was a nativist protestant organization with roots in British loyalist groups in eighteenth-century Ireland. It commemorated the Battle of the Boyne and the Protestant Ascendency. In Canada, it championed allegiance to the British Crown. The organization itself was modelled on the Masons.

The Parish schools included in this fonds are the Bayswater School, the Moss Glen School, the Summerside/Shamper's Bluff School, the Whitehead School, the Long Reach School, the Holderville School, the Milkish Parish School, the Perry Point School, and the Summerville School.

This fonds consists of 1978 land surveys, official building plan renovations and records of school activities since 1904. It also contains printed and photographed records of the school alumni society activity and details of school reunions. Letters, notices, newspaper articles, and student lists are included.

There are bulletins, correspondence, and administrative material for the Civilian Volunteer Corps and Air Raid Precautions organizations as well as the Byng Boys veterans club. Other material in this collection includes financial ledgers for John Kimball and Son Limited, newspapers, and various publications, along with documents from the New Brunswick Department of Agriculture and genealogical information about the Kimball family.

This fonds is broken down into five series, which are Historical Information, Miscellaneous, Correspondence, Genealogical Information, and an individual series for Raymond Paddock Gorham. Contained within it are vital records that pertain to the family, histories and accounts, genealogical reports, family trees, and photographs. There is a gap in the records before the first census of the area in 1851. After that time, however, the family's presence in the area is well documented.
