Samuel Leonard Tilley

This fonds consists of original material including letters and telegrams to and from Sir Samuel Leonard Tilley. The correspondents include: Sir John A. Macdonald, Charles Tupper, Thomas D'Arcy McGee, George Brown, Georges-Etienne Cartier, Alexander Galt, Reverend Ezekiel McLeod, Charles Fisher. The correspondence covers topics such as Confederation, the Inter-Colonial Railway, election results and temperance. The specific correspondence is indicated at item level. Also included is a statement of Canada's financial position between the years 1861 and 1864, two publications entitled Debates of Assembly 1867 and Correspondence Respecting the Proposed Union of the British North American Provinces 1867, a memorandum by Robert Jardine, a land deed (1837), a poem and a newspaper clipping.

This fonds contains largely original material documenting E. Tappan Adney's long involvement in the affairs of native people in New Brunswick, particularly the Maliseet. It includes information about treaty rights, New Brunswick court cases involving native rights, the historical development of reserves, and the 1947 review of the Indian Act.

This fonds contains correspondence, newspaper clippings, reports, briefs, submissions, notes, and copies of published articles, treaties, speeches, proclamations, and "deeds". It also includes several photos, prints, sketches, and watercolours. Some materials are typescripts.

There is also a microfilmed copy of Adney's diary covering his first trip to New Brunswick (30 June 1887 to 28 February 1889) as well as his diary covering his second trip to New Brunswick and first trip to Nova Scotia (July to November 1890).

This fonds consists largely of thank you notes received by the Fredericton Art Club from Lord and Lady Beaverbrook and/or his second wife, the former Lady Dunn, for gifts or greetings sent. Secretaries or other agents of the Beaverbrook family wrote a few letters on behalf of the family. The fonds also includes drafts of some of the letters written by the club to the Beaverbrook family.

Also included are the replies the Club received from Lord Beaverbrook and/or his wife, and from Harriet Irving and Olymbia Kedros respecting invitations to special events. Of particular interest is a handwritten copy of a tribute to Lord Beaverbrook.

Stuart Trueman

This fonds documents Stuart Trueman's literary career as author of books and articles published nation-wide between the late 1940s to the 1990s. It also documents his career as a reporter, editor, and columnist with The Telegraph-Journal and The Evening Times-Globe from the late 1920s to 1993. In addition, the fonds reflects his activities as a public speaker and as a member of several committees, most notably, the Roosevelt Campobello International Park Commission. It also reflects his work as the Bank of Canada's New Brunswick representative for its Canada Savings Bond campaigns. As well, this fonds contains some of Mildred Trueman's correspondence and financial records.

It includes incoming and outgoing correspondence, research materials, speaking notes, travel itineraries, newspaper clippings, minutes, report,s and personal mementos. The fonds also includes handwritten, typed, and published copies of Trueman's articles and columns as well as handwritten and typed copies of his books. Graphics include photographs, negatives, cartoon illustrations for books, promotional posters, proofs of book covers and original dust jackets. Artifacts that accompanied this fonds have not been processed and include invitations to various formal functions and certificates of appreciation.

Humorist, journalist, and amateur historian Stuart Douglas Trueman was born in Saint John, N.B. on 6 November 1911. He was the eldest of three sons and four daughters raised by Annie M. (Roden) and John Macmillan Trueman. Educated in local schools, Trueman graduated from Saint John High School in 1928. In 1937 he married Mildred Kate Stiles, daughter of Kate and Riley Stiles of River Glade, N.B. They had two sons, Douglas Hugh M. and Stuart Macmillan (Mac).

It reflects his involvement with his constituency, particularly in relation to the militia, rural mail contracts, public works, election campaigns, and the Intercolonial Railway as well as his political activities in relation to government departments and agencies, such as fisheries, Indian affairs, inland revenue, the interior, justice, labour, Civil Service Board, and King's Printer.

The fonds consists of political and family correspondence, materials relating to the St. Andrew's Society of Fredericton (1830s-1950s), and newspaper clippings.
