This fonds consists of family correspondence, including Albert's correspondence about yachting. George's letters to his parents while he was serving overseas during the First World War, 1917-1918, and letters from other soldiers overseas to his mother, 1918 to 1919, together with wartime printed ephemera, are included.

The fonds consists of a roll of enlisted men of the 115th Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force, in 1915 with additional notes. The roll records regimental numbers, full names, addresses, date and place of enlistment, names and addresses of next of kin, which company the man belonged to and whether he was transferred to another military unit. There are also handwritten lists of officers (one appears to be a draft) and typed lists of local casualties with their regimental numbers, names, unit and serial numbers.

The fonds includes Bettle's correspondence, military documents and ephemera from the Boer War and correspondence from his brother Harry who was serving in World War I. There are also a Cavalry Roll book, a freeman certificate for Saint John, newspaper articles concerning Loyalists and some printed items.

Hazel Deinstadt Bell

Hazel Deinstadt Bell's reminiscences about growing up in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, and Saint John, New Brunswick, take the form of a letter to her great nieces and nephews, and were written in the 1950s. She recalls the introduction of the telephone, activities along the waterfront in Yarmouth, as well as street cars, hurdygurdies, trained bears, and Hallowe'en celebrations, in Saint John. She also mentions the Boer War (South African War), attending school, silent movies, outbreaks of smallpox, the exhibition, paddlewheel boats on the St. John River, and a visit to New York in 1901. She makes brief comments about her time overseas during World War I.

The fonds also includes a very few newspaper clippings containing information about her time in England and France, during World War I, and her father's career as a pastor in the Methodist Church.

This fonds consists of Frederick D. Foley's military appointment as a lieutenant, 1915; his death certificate; a personalized commemorative scroll and a memorial from King George V, both honouring the war dead.

There is also a postal card addressed to Mrs. Violet Foley of Loch Lomond Road, from Frederick, dated just 23 days before his death, letting her know a letter would soon follow.

Barr about trips through the Maritime provinces, 1881-1882, a diary of Ida Jane Harding, 1877-1880, and a muster roll of company no. 2, Saint John County Light Infantry, 1866.

This fonds consists of James Quinton's records of his building and construction projects and other family records. It includes estimates, tenders and other construction documents for various banks, churches, houses, bridges, railways, the Court House, the Saint John Custom House, the Provincial Lunatic Asylum, the General Hospital, the Sailor's Home and Lighthouse, the Post Office, and the Opera Hall; 1848-1879 together with James Quinton's correspondence, wage records and business accounts.

There are also assessment notices, deeds, leases and other material of Quinton Family, 1785-1875. Family correspondence includes letters from John Boyd Quinton, San Francisco, to his brothers, John Quinton and James Quinton, 1849-1863, and correspondence belonging to John Quinton, Alfred Quinton, and William A. Quinton.

Overall, indicative of a very strong war effort by a dedicated group in a small community.
