Fonds consists of legal documents and correspondence pertaining to Allison Barlow Connell's career as lawyer in Carleton County. There are signed mortgages, deeds, trusts, and leases involving clients of Allison Connell. These documents contain names, dates, and descriptions of transactions. Fonds also contains account information concerning the estates of Allison Connell, Charles Connell, and Lewis P. Fisher, Allison B. Connell's law partner who had made Connell an executor of his estate. Correspondence includes business letters from clients and business associates.

The contents of Stevenson's letter books are shown in some detail as they are not strictly chronological. Unfortunately the books for his period as Surveyor General are missing and a search for them in Fredericton yielded no result. One wonders if they ever existed, as notes indicating the tenor of the reply appear on some letters. Stevenson's correspondence is vast, considering that everything is written in his own hand and there is no indication that he ever employed a secretary. letters that one might have expected to find in the Crown Land Office remain among his private papers. Quite a number are addressed to people other than Stevenson.

Stevenson's legal papers indicate that he was interested only in civil law. However, his one venture into criminal law attracted a good deal of attention at the time. He defended his friend, Dr Robert Thomson of St George in a malpractice suit brought by John B Key. Stevenson kept his own extensive records of this case, and account of which appears in the New Brunswick Law Reports.

The financial difficulties of the time are well illustrated in the estate papers which in the estate papers which include records of transaction carried out on behalf of previously well-to-do persons forced to leave the Province. Other papers came to him through the Probate Court, including those of Wellington Hatch, clerk of the Charlotte County Court prior to 1864. These are of sufficient importance to be considered as a separate collection.

This fonds documents the legal career of Jeremiah Hayes Barry and sheds light on his family life, his personal activities, and the activities of his children.

It consists of more than 450 legal case files that contain correspondence and legal documents pertaining to property transactions, the settling of estates, civil suits, bankruptcies, agreements, and other matters. Legal records also include additional professional correspondence, a legal ledger (1887-1906), a journal pertaining to the Symonds & Burpee estate (1880-1891), office accounts, ledgers, and legal papers (1840s-1900s).

Personal records include correspondence relating to J. H. Barry's appointment to the Supreme Court, his personal correspondence, and materials relating to the Victoria Public Hospital, the University of New Brunswick, St. Francis Xavier University, St. Dunstan's parish (Roman Catholic) and St. Dunstan's school.

Family records include the correspondence of J. H. Barry, Isabella Barry, and the Barry children; household receipts; invoices; materials pertaining to the children's schooling (examinations, study notebooks on various subjects, grades); Charles Barry's lecture notes from Dalhousie law school; newspaper clippings; and photographs.

This fonds consists of material from the practice of three generations of Newcastle (Northumberland County) lawyers, chiefly Allan A. Davidson, Jr. The legal documents reflect solicitor's work rather than civil litigation or criminal presentation. It includes material about expropriation by the Intercolonial Railway / Canadian National Railway and the forestry activities of Fraser Company. There are family documents, financial records and land records from 1795 to 1950. An account book belonging to Henry Gerrish, 1837-1840, is included as are the letterbooks of John Ambrose Street, Street & Kerr and Street & Davidson. There is also a journal of John Ambrose Street's voyage to England, 1817-1819.
