Miller family

This fonds consists of personal, business, and family records relating to members of the Miller family. It includes personal and family correspondence, 1879-1931 (9 items); an account book for farming operations, 1865-1875; farm receipts, 1863-1878; 11 receipts pertaining to the Methodist Church, 1898; four deeds for sale of land, 1875-1894, and one for the sale of a cow, 1893; and six fire insurance policies on houses in Bathurst, 1884-1896.

Also included are records of the Order of British Templars-Bathurst Lodge, including two copies of a Degree Book printed in Saint John (1867), a copy of a typed speech given by Miller, two books of accounts, and a listing of books missing from the lodge library (1874). There are also printed advertisements for Massey Harvesters and Steinberger Hendry Company globes.

This fonds contains material related to the history of Ministers Island. It includes a transcription of an interview with Wade Veinotte, who used to work on the island, as well as reports, feasibility studies, and development plans related to proposals to turn Ministers Island into a Provincial Park or other cultural resource, essays on the history of the island or the Van Horne family, photocopies of historic publications on the Van Horne family property and Sir William Van Horne, a booklet for an exhibition of paintings by Cathy Ross of artifacts belonging to the Van Horne family on Ministers Island, and transcriptions of original legal documents and correspondence related to the first European occupants of Ministers Island, John Hanson and his family.

This fonds consists of family, business and personal records and a number of appeals to the Assessment Appeals Tribunal. Mary Ellen Mooney's records include detailed invoices and receipts, mostly for the maintenance of 112 Queen Street, Saint John, the house in which she lived and rented apartments. There are also some correspondence, invoices and bills of lading for gravel and stone bought from the Mooney Quarries, 1957-1961. There are working papers and estimates from E. Mooney Construction, 1957 and 4 blue prints for the New Brunswick Electric Power Commission building in Fredericton, 1959.

Among the personal papers are receipts belonging to Claire Mooney and some records belonging to Leon Mooney. The records of the Assessment Appeals Tribunal are copies of appeals from York, Charlotte, Northumberland, Kent, Restigouche and Gloucester counties filed in 1967 with notes attached. They appear to be the copies used by one of the members of the Tribunal during the hearings.
