UNB Department of English Panel Discussion: “Transgender and Genderqueer Life and Rights”; Panel led by Lucas Crawford, Reid Lodge, and Alexa Fae McDaniel. 2 November 2017.

Lucas Crawford is an Assistant Professor of English at UNB Fredericton, former Junior Chair of Gender Studies at Simon Fraser University, Fellow in Gender Studies & Architecture at McGill University, the author of Sideshow Concessions (a book of LGBT poetry) and Transgender Architectonics (an academic resource on modernist architecture & gender).

Reid Lodge is a trans-rights activist based in Fredericton. They completed their 2016 Masters degree at UNB where they researched trans narratives and discourses in the Life-Writings of transgender men. Reid works with a number of LGBT groups, including the Imprint Youth Association and Trans-Action NB, and has been a driving force in trans activism in the province since 2015.

Alexa Fae McDaniel is a Saint Thomas University student researching trans rights in New Brunswick.

This open panel discussion was a part of series developed by the UNB's English Department to discuss underrepresented issues on campus. Lucas, Reid, and Alexa introduce themselves and talk about their research, the shortcomings of medical care in the province, and issues faced by trans and genderqueer folks.
