Zion Church (Portland)

The fonds consists of a record book for Zion Church, dated 1859 to 1865. The record book contains the minutes of monthly church meetings that include some names of those present. It documents the structure of the meetings and type of business conducted. An historical sketch of Zion Church, its endowments, rules of order and a confession of faith, are included in the book. There is also a membership list for August 1864 with names and street addresses.

Botsford family

This collection consists of Botsford family records donated by 4 different donors. Records relating to Amos Botsford include accounts payable, land records and records of annuities belonging to Deborah Murray. A list of the Loyalist settlement in the Annapolis/Digby area, Nova Scotia includes equipment and tools received from Amos Botsford and names of families. There are also complaints about Amos Botsford's handling of Loyalist claims.

Records relating to William Botsford include his receipt book, 1801-1829, for legal services rendered and testimonials and recommendations written for individuals including one for immigration purposes. There is also a copy of a warrant re William Botsford's salary as assistant judge. Documents pertaining to the Supreme Court case of Robert Crookshank and William Walker v. J. White, George Nowlan, and George Ketchum probably also belonged to William.

There are certificates and other personal papers belonging to Garrad Clopper, Harry G. Botsford of Boston, LeBaron Botsford and Sarah Cyper. Family and business correspondence, 1782-1913. Deeds for Botsford family property from 1797 to 1837 are also included.

There are also ephemeral items including Valentine's Day and other cards, and a printed poem by Maud Botsford entitled, "Our Boys," probably from the First World War. The apprenticeship indenture of Frederick Turner as a clerk and writer to Henry George Clopper of Wakefield, York, Co. N.B. is dated 1827.

There are family and legal papers relating to the Clopper, Murray and Ralph Cook estates. A plan of the Clopper farm in Fredericton is also included.

There are leases, deeds, mortgages, accounts, correspondence and other material of the Parks family, 1824-1899, and militia and military records, 1861-1915. Also included are a financial statement of St. Stephen's Church for 1877 and receipts re St. John Presbyterian Church, 1843-1849, 1850-1861.

Charles Warren Anderson railway

This fonds consists of historical correspondence, reports, acts, agreements and other material about New Brunswick railways. There are monthly payrolls of Salisbury and Harvey Railway, 1898-1901; accounts of the Albert Railway, 1877-1882; cancelled cheques and promissory notes of the N.B. Railway Co., 1884-1887; and records of the Northern and Western Railway Co., Railway Extension Co., and Cumberland Railway and Coal Co. The collection includes timetables, correspondence, lists of locomotives, notes, notices, newsletters and copies of newspaper articles.

Edmund Breese

The fonds consists 2 prompt books, one for "As You Like It" and the other for "Virginius", both plays performed in Saint John sometime around 1897. The books were made by separating the pages of the published scripts and pasting each page onto the page of a larger note book, thus leaving ample space for notes about stage directions, lighting and other matters.

John Clarence Webster

The John Clarence Webster Fonds consists mainly of his correspondence from the mid 1920s to 1950. Documents from his time in Edinburgh, Montreal and Chicago have been placed with his personal papers. Other personal papers include letters of condolence, memberships, and invitations. Correspondence relating to the acquistion of artifacts for his Canadiana collection has been grouped together as a series following the arrangement of the published catalogues. His work on boards and committees forms another series with the exception of the Committee of Management, Quebec House, England which was kept with the Wolfe series. His collection of manuscripts and his historical correspondence have been arranged by subject. Other correspondence has been arranged in the general correspondence series.

Abraham Gesner

This fonds consists of correspondence, specifications, patents and notes on Abraham Gesner's geological work. There are records of his patents and petitions for patents as well as specifications and plans for manufacturing kerosene. Some personal papers, including a memorandum of a will, an appointment to the Geological Survey of New Brunswick, and the assignment of a mortgage are included.

United Women's Missionary Societies

The fonds consists of 9 volumes of minute books. The 5 volumes dated from 1897 to 1945 belonged to the United Women's Missionary Societies and the remaining 4 volumes (1945-1973) belonged to the Women's Inter-Church Council of Saint John.

Information about the structure of meetings, some names of members and missionaries and general missionary work is included. The Women's Inter-Church Council minutes include some financial reports, a type copy of the constitution and by-laws adopted in 1967, and some printed orders of church services and newsclippings relating to the annual World Day of Prayer. In volume 9, there are lists of executive members and denominational members of the Council from 1965-1973.

Miriam Hatheway Wood

This fonds consists of business and personal correspondence of Miriam Wood relating to Fort La Tour. Her correspondents include Alfred Bailey of the Historic Monuments Board, federal cabinet ministers and officials, Dr. Webster of the New Brunswick Museum and various provincial and municipal officials. She also corresponded with the Art Club of Saint John and Pinewood Studios, in England, to whom she proposed a film about Madame La Tour.
