This fonds consists of family correspondence and legal documents. Included are the correspondence of George Morrisey, Amelia Jane (Seely), Alfred Morrisey, Mary Lilian Fairweather Morrisey, Henry Fairweather Morrisey, and the correspondence, will and other records of Charles Henry Fairweather. There are also accounts of the estate of William A. Robertson mainly dealing with repairs to Dock St. property, 1858-1896, invoices and receipts, mortgages, leases, insurance policies and printed ephemera.

Hendricks family

This fonds consists of James Hendricks business correspondence, primarily about the shipping of hardware and general goods from Glasgow to Saint John. It also includes deeds, leases, bonds and other legal documentation assembled when James' son, Conrad, brought a suit in the Court of Equity in 1864 against Samuel Hallet over the administration of James' will. There are also some other papers belonging to Conrad's descendants.

Treasurer of the City and County of Saint John

This fonds consists of the records of the Treasurer of the City and County of Saint John. It includes the County Treasurer's private ledger for 1875 and his cash books from 1861 to 1866 and from 1895 to 1896. There are drafts of the bv-laws for the City and County, 1876-1922, and reports of the Finance Committee, 1901-1905. There is also a record of all the licenses issued to surveyors of lumber in the county, 1894-1917.

There are correspondence, estimates and bills about the management of the county gaol, including the construction and repair of the building and the new fire regulations. Applications for a Lancaster police position and a request from the Council of Women that a female be appointed police and gaol matron are included.

There are records of the administration of the court house and the court system, which was the responsibility of the City and County government. They include the Treasurer's records of payment of fees to witnesses and juries for the Circuit Court, the County Court and the Supreme Court, 1876 to 1889. There is a record of the fees paid to the Coroner for inquests and views of bodies, including brief notes of the results of some inquests, 1901-1907. There are also records dealing with the work of the court stenographers including a transcript of a case of rum running in 1937.

Leavitt family

Fonds consists of the records of three generations of the Leavitt or Lovett family. There are the business records of Captain Daniel Lovett, Sr., and Captain Daniel Lovett, Jr., largely dealing with ships in the coastal trade. They cover the period 1790-1830 and include the schooner "Rosannah", and sloops "Dove" and "Hibernia", schooner "Sally", a scow "Mary" and brig "Susannah". There is also an account book for the poorhouse or almshouse in Saint John, kept by Daniel Lovett, 1810-1837 which details money spent for the maintenance of the poor.

The members of the family active in the middle years of the nineteenth century diversified their business interests but were also involved in shipping. The records of George L. Lovett (Leavitt) from Paraguay and Chile include accounts of the difficulty of Chilean trade and the loss of the "General O'Higgins" in 1852.

The records of A. Gordon Leavitt, 1879-1937, include family notes and genealogy, programmes, invitations, a business card, and a book, "St. John. New Brunswick. Canada", 1906.

William J. Ritchie letters

The fonds consists of typed transcriptions of letters written by Ritchie to his mother while serving in the South Africa (Boer) War. The letters are dated 17 January 1900, 22 February 1900, and 28 February 1900 written from Belmont and Paardeberg Drift, South Africa. Letters describe William Ritchie's experience fighting the Boers in graphic detail and give information about the everyday life of a soldier in the Boer War. The letter dated 22 February vividly describes a charge on the Boers during which he received a superficial wound from shrapnel while under fire from 5 different points. Included in the letters are a few references to letters received from family members in Canada, receiving copies of Saint John newspapers and his comments about city councillors.

This fonds consists of family correspondence, diaries and land records. It includes family correspondence, 1784-1933: the journals of N. Hubbard DeVeber, 1850-1856 and A.W. DeVeber, 1884-1885 and land records from Gagetown, Petersville and other parishes. The treasurer's account book of St. Paul's Church Sunday school, 1888-1892 and records about the estate of Leveritt H. DeVeber, 1880-1895 are also included.

Fonds consists of bylaws and a scrapbook. The by-laws provide information about the structure of this organization. The scrapbook is dated 1932 and contains a few newsclippings and a letter about the 1932 Dahlia Show at the Saint John Exhibition.
