Royal Engineers

This fonds consists of photocopies of correspondence between Captain G. Nicolls and Captain J. Maclauchlan. The letters discuss the availability and suitability of vessels on the St. John River in New Brunswick for use as gunboats and troop transports in case of action against the Americans during the War of 1812. Detailed specifications of the costs and designs for modifying existing vessels are included.

Rothesay Collegiate School fonds

This fonds consists of administrative and printed records of the Rothesay Collegiate School, now known as RCS Netherwood.

There are five student registers, covering the years 1891-1978, as well as issues of the school's magazine, "Blue and White," for most years between 1906-1981. Also include are photocopies of the Reverend W. R. Hibbard's and William Thompson's correspondence pertaining to the history of the school. The student registers are available on microfilm.

Rotary Club of Fredericton fonds

This fonds contains the administrative and financial records of the Fredericton Rotary Club, dating from the first decade of its existence. It consists of general correspondence, correspondence pertaining to the annual Rotary auction, notices of meeting, minutes of meeting, financial reports, a copy of the constitution, notes on the history of the club and its members, programmes, pamphlets, press clippings, and copies of speeches.

Also included are copies of Rotary magazines and Rotary song books as well as information pertaining to conventions, conferences, Rotary scholarships, Christmas parties for visiting students, and to the camp for physically disabled children.

There are also several commemorative plaques, an audio cassette tape recording information on the Adventures in Citizenship programme (1978), and photographs of the club's first meeting place, of the Rotary camp, and of activities associated with the annual Rotary auction (P496).

Roosevelt Campobello International Park Commission

This fonds consists of the administrative records of the Roosevelt Campobello International Park Commission, dating from 1964. It includes correspondence, minutes of meetings, the superintendent's monthly reports, the executive secretary's reports, reports and proposals relating to various projects and operations, brochures, newsletters, annual reports, annual financial statements, account books, agreements and other legal records, employee records, fire insurance records, and documents pertaining to the Mulholland Point lighthouse.

Also included are a number of floor plans, including several of the cottage and information center; historical notes on Campobello Island compiled by Mary W. Gallagher; and a copy of the 1964 international agreement establishing the park. There are also video tape recordings, including one or more of the park, the Roosevelt cottage, and the outer islands.

This collection consists of items relating to the Royal Visit of Princess Elizabeth (now Queen Elizabeth II) and the Duke of Edinburgh, to New Brunswick, in November 1951. These include an invitation to a luncheon at the Lord Beaverbrook Hotel, in Fredericton, in Honour of Her Royal Highness The Princess Elizabeth and His Royal Highness, The Duke of Edinburgh, November 6, 1951; two tickets to the luncheon; two place cards; and the dinner menu.

There is also an invitation from the Minister of Resources and Development and the chairman and members of the National Film Board, to the premiere of the film, "Royal Journey", the official film record of the Canadian tour of Their Royal Highnesses, The Princess Elizabeth and The Duke of Edinburgh to be shown at the Gaiety Theatre, in Fredericton, on December 23 [1951]. The premiere showing was under the distinguished patronage of His Hon. the Lieutnant Governor of New Brunswick and Mrs. MacLaren.

This account book includes entries on half-pay; business transactions in grain, lumber, foodstuffs, shoes and boots, rum, tobacco, and other goods; and exchanges of labour. It also includes receipts of payments made on accounts and brief entries relating to voyages of the trading vessel the "Mary Salter," specifically, the dates she left and returned to Nova Scotia and her ports of call. Entries are written in several hands other than Robert Salter's, one possibly being William W. Salter's.

The letter from Robert Reid to Adam Smith is a record of Robert Reid's experiences and recollections as he travelled overland from Baie des Chaleur to Halifax, Nova Scotia in mid-winter in the company of some aboriginal people.

It also includes newspaper articles by Robert Pichette, information pertaining to the Liberal Party policy platform (1970), speech notes, and biographical information on Robert Pichette, Patricia Ruth Robert-Pichette, and other individuals.

It also includes files relating to the attempt to establish a new French Language Daily (L'Acadie Nouvelle) and two flags, the 1964 standard from the Premier's car and a sample of a flag for the Republic of Madawaska (République du Madawaska)

Robert Douglass and Charles Douglass land surveyors fonds

This fonds documents the professional activities of both Robert Douglass and his son, Charles K. S. Douglass, as land surveyors. It consists of Robert Douglass’s field book, dating from 1848-1851, which records surveying work undertaken by him, as well as two practice / copy books, the first dating from 1836-1856, and the second to 1848, both containing geometry problems, drawings, theorems, and other sketches, as well as samples of plans, writing, and different alphabets. Towards the back of the 1836-1856 volume are several reflections and poems composed by Robert Douglass between 1843 and 1856. There are also a very few loose documents – 1 sample plan, 3 poems, and 1 blank petition for the purchase of land for settlement.

Charles Douglass’s professional records consist of business correspondence, orders for surveys, returns of surveys (including sketches), survey sketches, and statements of expenses, as well as circulars and regulations.

Also included are approximately 67 maps or plans that were prepared by, or that show grants of land that were surveyed by, either Charles Douglass, Robert Douglass, Alfred Layton, William John Layton, E. R. Rutledge, or R. D. Jago. Most of the maps, sketches, plans, and surveys are of property located in Kent County. A very few are of property in Queens County. The fonds also includes a few of Charles Douglass's personal and legal records, most notably, deeds, road tax certificates and school assessment notices.

The returns of survey and survey sketches are located with the textual records. The maps and plans have been moved to PANB's Map Section.
