New Brunswick Association of Optometrists

The fonds consists of records relating to the formation and development of the New Brunswick Association of Optometrists. There are minutes and membership lists for the entire period of its existence and examination papers of applicants for certification. The records of public education campaigns include advertising, volunteer records and information about educational efforts at schools. There are minutes and notes from board meetings, annual reports and correspondence with the American and British optometrical associations. Correspondence between the association and its members and with the provincial government has also been preserved. Financial records include bank statements and dues, accounts, and miscellaneous legal records.

The records deposited in 1975 (5 meters) have been arranged and described but those deposited in 1987 (10 meters) have not get been completely processed.

The fonds consists of the administrative records of the New Brunswick Division of the Defence Medical Association of Canada, including correspondence, minutes, reports, membership records and financial records. Reports of the annual meetings of the national body are also included.

Maritime Union Study fonds

The fonds consists of the correspondence, research notes, transcripts of hearings, minutes of meetings, press clippings and assembled background material arranged by project. Under the general government project is included tax policy, administration, personnel policy and uniformity of legislation. The development project includes regional development, industrial development, transportation, tourism and natural resources, including off-shore minerals. The social policy project examines education, public health, Medicare and welfare. Under intergovernmental relations all levels of government, including municipal were considered, as well as constitutional questions. Regulation and licensing functions were also studied.

The fonds also includes correspondence, reports and briefs from individuals and organizations, arranged alphabetically. There are transcripts of speeches and debates and the results of an opinion poll conducted by Market Facts of Canada. A complete set of publications produced by the study is included.

This fonds contains the records created by the organizations and clergy of the Diocese of Fredericton - including the Bishops, the Diocesan Synod and its predecessor, the Diocesan Church Society, the Deaneries, the Cathedral and the Parishes.

However, it is the latter, the Parishes, which have generated the bulk of the records contained herein. Records produced by the Parishes include the Parish Registers (of Baptisms, Marriages, Burials and Confirmations), records of the Corporation (Vestry), statistical Registers of Services (now called Vestry Books), correspondence and financial records, land deeds and consecration and other legal records, parish histories, photographs etc. Any Parish's records may include some or all of the above and more.

This fonds consists of the business and financial records of the Read Stone Co. Ltd. as well as family correspondence and other personal records. It includes minutes of meetings, correspondence, letterbooks, general ledgers, day books, cash books, accounts receivable and accounts payable ledgers, order books, sales invoices, survey records, bills of lading and other shipping records, invoices, accounts, receipts, bank books, cancelled cheques, draft notes, and time books. Family records include correspondence, diaries, photographs, and material pertaining to the Independent Order of Foresters.

There are also brochures, labels, advertising boards, catalogues of various suppliers, almanacs, grindstone and rock samples. Lastly the fonds includes several annual reports and statements of the Dominion Steel Corp. and British Empire Steel Corporation (1920s), issues of the journals, The Maritime Merchant (1920s) and the Contract Record & Engineering Review (1910s), and a copy of an unpublished thesis entitled, "The Cumberland Basin grindstone industry by James D. Snowden," (1972).

St. Paul's United Church (Fredericton) fonds

This fonds consists of administrative and financial records of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church (later St. Paul's United Church of Canada) and of its various groups and societies. It includes minutes of meetings of the Congregational, Trustee, Building Committee, Pulpit Selection Committee, and the Dr. J. Arthur Forbes Memorial Committee; Session records; Treasurers' books; pew rental books; contributions books; bank books; receipts; annual reports; membership books; and records relating to the election of Elders.

Also included are a combination of minutes, financial records, membership and other records of the Guild, the Ladies Aid Society, the Women's Auxiliary, the Sunday School, the Women's Foreign Missionary Society, the Cecilia Sutherland Missionary Society, the Men's Club, the Choir, the Canadian Girls in Training (C.G.I.T.), the Young People's Society of Christian Endeavor, and the Young People's Club.

Lastly, the fonds contains records of communions, baptisms, marriages, and burials; legal records; records pertaining to the church's 150th anniversary; and copies of printed music, yearbooks, and published material, including a brief history of St. Paul's Church for the years 1832-1932.

Waterloo (ship) fonds

This fonds documents the timber trading activities of the ship "Waterloo" as transacted by its owners John Ward & Sons, of Saint John and their agents, between 1821 and 1826. It consists of a disbursment book that records the purchase of provisons and the hiring of labour for 10 timber voyages. Items and services purchased include foodstuffs, household supplies, insurance, rum, paint, oil, medical attendances, clothing, cartage, surveying, hauling and custom duties. For the most part, the names of the captains and seamen receiving wages, the amounts paid, and the type of labour performed are recorded. Occasionally expenses paid on the seamen's behalf, such as washing, tobacco, and rum are noted. Statements of sales of timber and cargo at Liverpool, statements of profit and loss, and accounts of cargos are also included.

A number of newspaper clippings, [ca. 1885], on a variety of subjects, such as shipping, steamboats, railways, bridges, politics, crime, and charitable organizations, relating primarily to the city of Saint John, were found tucked between the pages of the disbursement book. This material is also included with the fonds.

This fonds contains the administrative records of the Red Bank Presbyterian Church, the Salmon Creek Presbyterian Church, the Chipman Presbyterian Church, and the Chipman United Church as well as records relating to church societies, organizations, and committees.

It consists of minutes of Sessions, minutes of congregational and Board of Trustee meetings, and church registers (communion rolls, baptisms, marriages, burials). Also included are minutes of the Women's Missionary Society, the United Church Women, and of the Red Bank Cemetery Committee as well as a pew rental book for the Salmon Creek church.

Wheaton Brothers fonds

This fonds consists of the business records of Wheaton Brothers. It includes 2 day books (1855-1864, 1885-1891) and a single account ledger (1854-1864, 1893-1904). The day books provide such detailed information as names of customers, dates of transactions, goods and products sold, services rendered, amounts charged, and payments received. There is also information pertaining to the hiring of workers, particularly, their date of hiring, term of employment, and wage promised.

The account ledger contains individual customer accounts that provide detailed information on goods and services purchased, amounts charged, and payments received. Frequently, the customer's place of residence is noted. The firm's customers lived in Sackville, Shediac, Amherst, Shemague, Salisbury, Petitcodiac, Coverdale, Tignish, Jolicure, Dorchester, and elsewhere.

The fonds also contains Frank Wheaton's accounting exercise book or work book, which provides information on 19th century accounting practices. He may have been a student in the commercial department of Sackville Academy in the 1870s.

Lastly, there are a few household accounts of Hedley Hicks with Sackville merchants dating to the 1930s, along with a very few household accounts of E. A. Wheaton dating to the same period.

This fonds contains the administrative and financial records of Marysville Lodge No. 18 Knights of Pythias. It consists of general correspondence, correspondence with representatives of Grand Lodge, receipts, accounts, invoices, annual reports, reports of annual conventions, applications for membership, certificates of suspensions, membership cards, and lists of members.

It also includes materials relating to the constitution and by-laws, pamphlets and booklets pertaining to the Order's activities and rituals, circulars, and catalogues of official regalia.
