Bliss Carman

This collection consists of a letter written by Bliss Carman in 1915 while he was living in Haines Falls, NY., and addressed to Glen Walton Blodgett in Buffalo. Carman writes that he is honoured to be invited to a function in the company of distinguished guests. There is also a copy of the poem "In Excelsis", dated Christmas 1924, and printed on a single sheet of deckled, heavy weight paper. Both items bear Bliss Carman's signature.

Roberts, and Joseph Howe, 1857-1909. There are copies of Royal Navy reports on Bay of Fundy fishery, 1853, and typescripts of writings by Hannay, including articles clipped from newspapers, 1870-1909.

Research notes and background material included the original of a "Report to British cabinet on the Railway between Halifax and Quebec," 1857, and handwritten notes on the Tilley family, 1889.

The documents particularly relate to the First and Second World Wars, the Eastern Pulp Wood Co., Ford automobiles, businesses of St George, the Utopia Centre, Black's Harbour high school, James Mollison and the American Flyers, church events, the Royal Family, and rum running.

This series contains the papers of Ann (Haley) Berman including a scrapbook compiled by Ann with a detailed map of New Brunswick on the cover. Newspaper and magazine clippings collected in the scrapbook concern significant New Brunswick places and landmarks, people, and events from the 1940s. Some notable cut-outs include articles on Dochet, or St. Croix, Island, fires in St. George including a two-storey wooden frame 1800's house, customs officers at Upper Mills, lighthouse and fog stations in the Bay of Fundy and their keepers, the Home and School Association on Campobello, fishing in Blacks Harbour and other areas of the Bay of Fundy, and mysterious moose carcass near St. George. The scrapbook also contains clippings on the city of Saint John’s history, some of New Brunswick’s earliest settlers, famous families and individuals such as Lord Beaverbrook or Charles Saint Etienne de La Tour, New Brunswick hospitals and the Red Cross, hunting and fishing, and global events like post World War II talks between Britain, the U. S. and Russia.
