This fonds consists of records pertaining to the proposed construction of stone buildings at Miramichi, Northumberland County, New Brunswick. Included are the specifications for a guard house, cook house, privies, and well [1827]; a letter addressed to Captain Douglas, Fredericton, from G. Graydon, Captain Royal Engineers, dated at Fredericton, 11 July 1827, enclosing these plans for a subaltern detachment at Miramichi; an estimate for the barracks at Miramichi; and a hand-drawn architectural plan of the proposed subaltern barracks by G. Graydon, dated 1827.

George Currier

This fonds consists of a photocopy and a transcription of a diary written by George Currier, probably in 1850. It is a small pocket diary of the type designed for recording appointments and gives very brief notes of his social activities, the news of the day and his medical activities. Also included are notes on George Currier's life.

This fonds documents the professional activities of George T. Mitton, who practised law for a number of years in Moncton, N.B. It includes 953 files containing correspondence, notes, and legal documents relating to work undertaken on behalf of his clients. These documents pertain to criminal cases, civil suits, the settling of estates, property transactions, divorces, appointments of guardianship, bankruptcies and the settling of debts. The files are arranged alphabetically by name of the client.

This fonds contains the administrative records of Germain Street Baptist Church and of its groups and organizations. It consists of legal records (deeds, mortgages, bonds, wills, releases), membership lists, financial records (account book, 1882-1890; statements), and minutes of trustee meetings and congregational meetings.

Also included are marriage records of the Rev. Theldon S. Poole (1916-1946), records of burials (1916-1917), and Sunday school records (minutes of business meetings, membership rolls, annual reports). There are also copies of printed and published articles on the histories of Germain Street Baptist Church and Brussels Street Baptist Church, a souvenir programme of the 150th anniversary of the Germain Street church, a booklet or essay on a service of witness in Centenary United Church (Saint John), and images of the church organ.

This fonds contains materials relating to the activities of the Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Fredericton (New Brunswick) over its first five years and to the public responses received to its musical performances.

There are 10 scrapbooks, each containing textual material, newspaper clippings, and photographs chronicling the staging of a production, including scripts, rehearsals, programmes, tickets, advertising, and reviews. Musical productions represented include Palace of Varieties (1979), Iolanthe (1979), Victorian Cabaret (1978), The Mikado (1980), Pirates of Penzance (1976), An Evening with Gilbert and Sullivan (1976-1979), Patience (1977), Fools and Lovers (1977), and Gondoliers (1978).

This fonds consists of eight letters from Thomas Cooke to François and André Hache, 1822 to 1841 and later. There is also a letter from François Hache to S.J. Desjardins, 1836; a deed from Isidore Robichaud and his wife to their son, 1820, and an appointment of Theophile Blanchard as branch pilot for the port of Caraquet, 1869. Included are three letters of Joseph Hache, 1936-1939.

Harper and Allen families

This collection consists primarily of personal records of Duncan S. Harper, Sadie Harper Allen, and Frank Allen. It includes 7 diaries of Sadie Harper, covering the years 1890-1898, along with a transcription of each, as well as the original and a transcription of 22 letters written in 1912 by Sadie Harper Allen to family members while she was travelling with her husband in England (London, Manchester, Ambleside, Stratford), Scotland (Edinburgh, Glasgow), and Switzerland.

The writer offers a portrait of pre-war Britain, recording her impressions of the suffragettes, her visit to the House of Commons to hear Prime Minister Asquith, British customs, and of dignitaries attending the Imperial Universities Congress in London. There are 3 additional letters written by Sadie Allen to her family, a letter from John (Jack) Allen to Bill commenting on Sadie Allen's 1912 letters, and Aunt Nellie's account of Sadie and Frank Allen's 1912 trip to Europe, written for publication in a New Brunswick newspaper. Transcriptions of the latter 4 letters are also included.

The collection also includes the original and a transcription of the diary of Duncan Small Harper in which he records details of his 1889 European tour, made primarily in search of medical help for his debilitating muscular disease.

Lastly the collection contains a brief curriculum vitae of Frank Allen; 2 poems composed by him; Allen and Harper families genealogical information; obituary notices for both Frank and Sadie Allen; a newspaper article on Professor Frank Allen, "an inspired physicist;" and photographs of Frank Allen (1912) and Sadie Harper Allen.

The diaries and letters were transcribed by the donor, Lillian B. Allen, prior to 1977.

Harry Hagerman

The fonds contains guidelines and outlines for radio and television interviews that Harry Hagerman conducted on a number of topics related to the folk history and culture of New Brunswick, taped interviews and their transcribed texts, sketches, newspaper clippings and miscellaneous material that Hagerman collected during his reporting and investigations or research.

Hazel Deinstadt Bell

Hazel Deinstadt Bell's reminiscences about growing up in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, and Saint John, New Brunswick, take the form of a letter to her great nieces and nephews, and were written in the 1950s. She recalls the introduction of the telephone, activities along the waterfront in Yarmouth, as well as street cars, hurdygurdies, trained bears, and Hallowe'en celebrations, in Saint John. She also mentions the Boer War (South African War), attending school, silent movies, outbreaks of smallpox, the exhibition, paddlewheel boats on the St. John River, and a visit to New York in 1901. She makes brief comments about her time overseas during World War I.

The fonds also includes a very few newspaper clippings containing information about her time in England and France, during World War I, and her father's career as a pastor in the Methodist Church.
