This fonds consists of a diary, 1916-1918, with brief, matter-of-fact notes of life in camp in England and later in France during the First World War. There are also two notebooks from gunnery courses take by Humphrey. There is a file of correspondence sent to Humphrey while he was in charge of the welfare of some of the troops at Kimnel Park, including letters of complaint from soldiers and some correspondence about the relationships of enlisted men and British women. Humphrey's enlistment and other documents are also included.

These records were collected by members of the Hart family while researching their family history. This collection contains the record books kept in operating the businesses and correspondence related to the business of smoking herring and marine repairs. There is a sectional Aeronautical chart of Boston (V-10), n.d.; blueprints of the barge "Minca" built for the Ministry of War, 1944; a Lee Wilcox poem; newspaper clipping about the replica of the schooner "Bluenose"; work orders for the annual refit of the patrol boat "Gull Light," 1970.

Hazel Deinstadt Bell

Hazel Deinstadt Bell's reminiscences about growing up in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, and Saint John, New Brunswick, take the form of a letter to her great nieces and nephews, and were written in the 1950s. She recalls the introduction of the telephone, activities along the waterfront in Yarmouth, as well as street cars, hurdygurdies, trained bears, and Hallowe'en celebrations, in Saint John. She also mentions the Boer War (South African War), attending school, silent movies, outbreaks of smallpox, the exhibition, paddlewheel boats on the St. John River, and a visit to New York in 1901. She makes brief comments about her time overseas during World War I.

The fonds also includes a very few newspaper clippings containing information about her time in England and France, during World War I, and her father's career as a pastor in the Methodist Church.
