This fonds documents William J. West's career as a Judge of the Supreme Court of New Brunswick. It consists of more than 400 individual case files containing correspondence, judgments, notes, briefs, and other legal documents. The fonds also includes miscellaneous legal correspondence (1952-1967), lists of barristers, and dockets, as well as correspondence, speeches, and newspaper clippings relating to his political career.

Lastly, the fonds contains personal correspondence, personal legal records, genealogical notes on the West family, a transcript of an interview with William West, invitations to social functions, family photographs, newspaper clippings, and materials pertaining to riverboats and steamships on the St. John River.

Photographs include two portraits of an unidentified man and woman, both formal and informal poses of unidentified individuals, and landscape photographs. There is a 1955 letter to William Jack Dibblee from Hugh John Flemming concerning Dibblee's retirement as a county councillor, and certificates consisting of confirmation, Dibblee's 1959 Masonic Lodge certificate, and Dibblee's 1911 marriage announcement to Grace Dibblee.

This collection consists of a typescript memoir entitled "Life and times in New Brunswick 1866 to 1945," which is a candid account of most aspects of William Hubbard's life and includes a vivid picture of activities on the St. John River in the 1870s and 1880s. There are also extracts from the memoirs of W. W. Hubbard selected by Fred Phillips for a series of articles in "The Daily Gleaner" (Fredericton) and dated December 1955.
