This fonds consists of the business records and correspondence of James McLeod in his role as master of 11 vessels. There are 11 series, one for each vessel. There is also a handwritten notebook, "Specifications of an Iron Sailing Vessel," giving 48 pages of detailed specifications for building and filling up an iron barque. The volume is undated but appears to come from between 1830 and 1860.

Macdonald, Charles Tupper, Thomas D'Arcy McGee, George Brown, Georges-Etienne Cartier, Alexander Galt, Reverend Ezekiel McLeod, Charles Fisher. The correspondence covers topics such as Confederation, the Inter-Colonial Railway, election results and temperance. The specific correspondence is indicated at item level. Also included is a statement of Canada's financial position between the years 1861 and 1864, two publications entitled Debates of Assembly 1867 and Correspondence Respecting the Proposed Union of the British North American Provinces 1867, a memorandum by Robert Jardine, a land deed (1837), a poem and a newspaper clipping.

There are 3 recipes for cures for such ailments as sore joints and rheumatism. Also included in the journal are dates and locations of fires in Saint John and Portland, and a few dates of storms and earthquakes or tremors. Dates of some marriages, mostly in Saint John and Portland, are also recorded in the journal.
