The collection consists of 3 record books, 8 scrapbooks and 2 boxes of material relating mainly to Saint John local history. There are 2 fire station record books recording fire alarms in Saint John, 1889-1900 and 1901-1907. The books provide dates, box numbers, building owners and locations, damages, causes and insurance coverage.
The 1889-1900 record book was kept by E.P. Leonard (1852-1907), an engineer at No. 4 Engine House. A third book contains photographs of drawings in the New Brunswick Museum collection and a photo of St. Philip's African Methodist Episcopal Church on Queen Street, Saint John. Some of the scrapbooks are indexed and contain pasted newsclippings. A large quantity of material relating to fires and firefighting is included. The boxes contain newspapers, sketches, various awards and certificates, written histories, and about 75 snapshots (mostly identified).
