This fonds documents the professional career of civil engineer Henry George Clopper Ketchum, particularly with respect to the building of railway lines in Canada and Brazil and the construction of the Chignecto Ship Railway. It also contains biographical information about him as well as business records pertaining to a general store presumably operated by members of the Ketchum family at Fredericton.

It includes incoming and outgoing correspondence, reports, minutes, specifications, estimates, contracts, schedules, maps, surveys, plans, blueprints, photographs and negatives. It also includes papers on engineering subjects, engineering notes, diagrams, essays, and articles and newspaper clippings about the Chignecto Ship Railway.

This fonds documents the personal, professional, and reform activities of Henry Harvey Stuart. In particular, it highlights his involvement and interest in socialism, unionism, politics, education, religion, temperance, and labour.

The fonds contains correspondence, 1869, 1895-1955; letterbooks, speeches, copies of published articles, education records, newspaper clippings, scrapbooks, genealogical materials, and scattered issues of newspapers and periodicals (many on socialist, labour and Christian themes).

There is also a description of Benton and Benton graded school with a list of pupils with their age and birth date. Also includes minutes of Newcastle Methodist Men's Union, Newcastle Town Improvement League, and Fredericton Junction Discussion group as well as two addresses by Stuart "World Federation or More World Wars?", 1943, and "The Church and Post-War Reconstruction", 1943; several speeches including those to Northumberland County People's Union and to Fredericton workmen; and a record of "the doings" of the Branch Bible Society of Waterborough.

Indian Affairs Collection

This collection contains 90 original documents, dealing with issues concerning the Natives of New Brunswick during the 18th and 19th centuries. Included are a number of documents dealing with land disputes between the Natives and the settlers, appointing Native Chiefs and Captains, listing the names of Natives living in various regions, assuring the neutrality of the Natives during the War of 1812, and petitioning for relief for various Native families. There are also a series of French language documents which, in addition to dealing with Native issues, also focus on land disputes between Acadians and the Government. Documents are in the form of personal and official correspondence, reports, maps, certificates, petitions and lists. Of particular note is a Treaty of Peace and Friendship between the President of His Majesty's Council and the Chief of the Jedaick Tribe of Natives at Halifax, in the Province of Nova Scotia or Acadia, 25 June 1761.

This fonds includes minutes, with reports attached, of meetings of the Executive Committee of the Interprovincial Home for Young Women, 1935-1937. Reports include one from the Superintendent, Barbara G. Walker, to the Board of Governors for the year 1937 and a report, entitled "Ideals in Democracies and Dictatorships," written Dr. W.C. Keirstead, member of the Board of Governors. This fonds also contains financial records and correspondence.
