Barker brothers Riley Brook camps

The collection consists of a day book / account book (1905-1932) for the Riley Brook Camp(s), possibly under the management of Charles L. Barker in 1905. It records payments for upkeep, wages, and other expenses and income received from patrons. The collection also includes an address book, dated 1 January 1912, probably relating to patrons of the camp; a listing of beneficiaries of Independent Order of Foresters at Riley Brook (1903-1912); a listing of members of a subordinate court at Tobique; 3 deeds and a will relating to the family of James and Adelaide Burns; and 2 pamphlets advertising the camps.

This fonds consists of the administrative and financial records of T. McAvity & Sons Limited, dating from 1879 when the firm was reorganized after the Great Fire. It includes minutes of directors and shareholders meetings, general ledgers, statements of profit and loss, records of mortgages and bonds, records of sales, travellers' accounts, inventories, machine tool pattern books, appraisals, stock certificates, and dividend books.

In addition, there are unemployment insurance and workmen's compensation records, statistical reports, correspondence and government reports (some relating to the Second World War years), and a typescript copy of the history of the firm. A few newspaper clippings and several photographs are also included.

This fonds consists of two legal items relating to J. & J. Miller & Co.: (1) A dissolution of partnership agreement, dated 22 April 1880, between James Miller, Sr. and James Miller, Jr., John Miller and John Cumming Miller, and Charles Alexander Duff Miller and David Elder Miller, and (2) An agreement, dated 23 April 1880, between John Miller et al and James Miller, Jr. regarding the latter's employment as manager of the company.

This collection contains an invoice to Taylor and Thompson from R. Chestnut and Sons dated 1884. On the reverse is a detailed description with specifications for a new river steamship, dated 14 November 1896, which George F. Baird planned to build for the Star line. There is also a 3-page account for the estate of Herbert Morgan dated 1922.

This fonds consists of J. W. Penry's account book, 1885-1896, containing details on the outfitting and rigging of ships in Saint John harbour by his workers. The names of Penry's clients, both shipping firms and sea captains, are noted along with work completed, ports visited, cargoes shipped, expenses incurred, and sums charged and paid. Also included are manifests of cargos and wages of workers, seamen, and builders.

E. V. Wetmore & Sons

This fonds consists of business records for the stairbuilding business established by E. V. Wetmore in Saint John in the 1870s. It consists of a time book (1935-1938) that records the names of employees, the number of hours worked, and the wages paid; an account ledger (1930-1945) that records the names of the customers, their place of residence, the amount charged, and the method of payment (cash, cheque, contra account, note); and an 1892 catalogue for E. V. Wetmore & Sons. A pamphlet on curling and a programme for a dinner in honour of the 1938 Scottish curling team are also included.

Two photographs, one each of a group of men attending the 1930 Canadian Construction Association conference (Wetmore was president of the Saint John branch) and of a group of men in a school (ca. 1914), were transferred to the Photographic Section.
