Charles Frederick Allison fonds

This fonds consists of five series:

  • Series 1 : six scrapbooks, including mainly correspondence, bills, accounts and receipts of the Crane & Allison merchant and lumber business, and of the building of the Wesleyan Academy, Sackville, New Brunswick. The scrapbooks also include some Sackville Circuit records of the Wesleyan Methodist Church and Sackville School records. In addition, the fonds includes various correspondence regarding the establishment of the Wesleyan Academy and other business matters.
  • Series 2 : 11 letters; 9 from Enoch Wood, 1 from William Temple, and a copy of one from C.F. Allison to the Honorable A. Campbell, Member of Legislative Council, Nova Scotia.
  • Series 3 : Letter to C.F. Allison from Humphrey Pickard reporting on the progress of the Methodist Mission, 19 May 1846.
  • Series 4 : Letter to Rev. William Temple, Cahirman of the New Brunswick (School) District, from C.F. Allison, proposing the establishment of the Wesleyan Academy, 1839.
  • Series 5 : Letter to C.F. Allison from Cunard and Munn concerning the estate of William Crane and shipping business, 3 February 1854.

Fonds consists of personal papers and also includes records belonging to Ethel Peake, some given to Smith or possibly borrowed or received following her death and used in his research for biographical note "Ethel Marguerite Peake, 1885-1954" (accession 8426). Peake files contain correspondence 1908-1943; biographical brochure [between 1923 and 1936]; clippings; Mount Allison Department of Music student records, 1936-1944 (students of Peake); photographs, including several of Peake; Allison G. Patterson file, 1951 and 1981.

Fonds consists of four series comprised of records created and collected by family members documenting their involvement with the Presbyterian Church in general, St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Sackville, New Brunswick, in particular, and many volunteer organizations. Records included in series were mainly generated by Jeesie Elizabeth Craise's work as an active member of many Presbyterian Church organizations such as the Woman's Missionary Society, Ladies' Aid, Sunday School, Mission Band, many at local, regional and national levels and some records of work with UNICEF, Canadian Bible Society, and Red Cross.

The series include: Rev. Alexander Craise series consists of sermons, correspondence, some records related to churches in which he served; Jessie Elizabeth Craise series, 1915-1994, containing correspondence, certificates, awards, financial papers, and records of her project to document the history of Presbyterian Churches in the Atlantic region; and, M. Helen Craise Beale series, 1963-1994, consists of certificates, awards, correspondence and writings related to her father and the history of St. Andrew's, Sackville.

Fonds consists of a letter to David Burpee from Enoch Barker, Sheffield, New Brunswick, 1846 and one to David Burpee from C.H. Barker, Saint John, New Brunswick, 1847. They are probably both written by Charles H. Barker, a former Sheffield schoolmate of David Burpee. "Enoch" may be a nickname.

Fonds consists predominantly of correspondence received by William “Willie” Doherty while in attendance at the Mount Allison Wesleyan Academy in Sackville, New Brunswick. Also included are letters and a bill for Isaac and Isabella Doherty and letters addressed to other family members from Willie. The contents of the fonds document the lives and current circumstances of the Doherty family in the 1870s.

There are three letters to Don McLauchlan, one from Robert Killam, Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, and two from Grace Tomkinson, New York; notes and drafts of the Windsor / Harper / Killam family trees, with an attached note to Don McLauchlan from Vince Windsor; and Windsor / Harper / Killam family trees from the "Mount Allison Record", Fall, 1971 (annotated).
