McLaughlin family

"This fonds consists mainly of documents related to the McLaughlin family's personal activities. Materials related to John McLaughlin and his estate, dating from 1926-1932, include correspondence, invoices and receipts, his 1932 death announcement, and insurance policies. There is also a small group of records of his dry goods company consisting of financial papers and business correspondence. The materials belonging to his wife Annie include receipts, correspondence, and bills, dated 1880-1939.

Charles Guy McLaughlin's documents (1908-1953) include family correspondence, financial papers consisting of tax, insurance policies, and receipts, and also military certificates he received as a lieutenant. Elsie McLaughlin's papers consist entirely of correspondence with physicians and acquaintances, dated 1918-1936. Marguerite McLaughlin's materials contain correspondence with friends and relatives and receipts dating from 1889-1954. Bessie McLaughlin also has receipts and correspondence, dated 1929-1954. Harry McLaughlin has business correspondence, dated 1935-1965. Charles Guy McLaughlin's son, Ronald, has documents including correspondence, military papers, and receipts, dated 1916-1941.

Family photographs date from 1902-1961 and show snapshots taken of family members and Carleton County residents. Photographs also include nature shots taken of Woodstock and the surrounding landscape. Postcards show Woodstock buildings."

This fonds mainly consists of materials related to John Louis Carleton's activities as an amateur playwright. The fonds includes correspondence between J. L. Carleton and Cornhill Publishing Co., newspaper clippings, show programs, and manuscripts of the following plays: "The Medieval Hun," "Lores Defender," "The Dungarvans," "Oh How Delightful," "The Crimson Wing," "The O'Mahoney," "The Middogue," "The Lord of Cashel," "The Purple Testament," "Ready, Aye Ready," and an untitled play.

Fonds also contains account information concerning the estates of Allison Connell, Charles Connell, and Lewis P. Fisher, Allison B. Connell's law partner who had made Connell an executor of his estate. Correspondence includes business letters from clients and business associates.

Fonds consists of account books for the administration of the estates of local businessmen and members of the Vince family. There are deeds, correspondence written between Vince family members, and photographs, dating between 1910 and 1942. Photographs show military men and units in Carleton County, Halifax, and England, and snapshots of family members. Also included in the fonds are scrapbooks containing memorabilia of military personnel and personal documents, and eight maps showing four military maneuvers and the locations of Liverpool, England; Miramichi Bay, NB; and Carleton County, NB.

Personal documents include Eda McBride's 1952 death certificate and correspondence.

"This fonds consists of documents related to James C. Hovey's work with the provincial Department of Public Works as a supervisor of roads. There are letters regarding Hovey's responsibilities with the Department of Public Works, road tax notices, certificates, and correspondence with the Cobbler Sexton Mining Company Limited.

There are also documents from the parish of Northampton, school district 2, including minute books, teacher agreements for both Ella R. Purvis and Etta Grant (1919), and classroom registers for teachers Effie M. Forest and Annie E. Gibson, dated 1915-1916 and 1925-1926. The relationship between James Hovey and the school records is unknown."

This fonds consists of staff registers listing engineers and firemen employed by the Canadian Pacific Railway Company; letter books containing CPR staff appointments; a payroll book including the salaries received by Carleton County residents; timetables; staff bulletins containing news about company operations; and publications of "The Spanner," a magazine published by the CPR, issues dating from 1848-1864 .

Charlotte Miriam Ginson

Fonds consists mainly of documents related to Charlotte Miriam Ginson's education and early career as a school teacher. There are certificates including birth, marriage, church, and music; Ginson's entrance marks into the Provincial Normal School; her teacher's license, dated 1933; and an autograph album, dated 1908 kept to her mother, E. Lillian Christie, during her attendance at the Provincial Normal School.
