Joseph Gibson Correspondence

This subseries contains letters addressed to Joseph V. Gibson of St. Andrews, New Brunswick. Most of the letters concern his son Joe Gibson, a pilot with the Royal Canadian Air Force. After he went missing during a flight and was presumed dead, many friends of the family or of Joe Gibson would write to express their sympathy. This subseries also contains the official report from the Minister of National Defense for the Air announcing that Joe Gibson is missing, as well as letters of sympathy from various members and branches of the Canadian military.

Joe Gibson Correspondence

This subseries contains letters addressed to Joe Gibson. It includes some personal correspondences from his friends and a few mail-in offers, such as an offer for an analysis of Joe’s handwriting, an offer of a course to improve his voice from the Perfect Voice Institute, and one from the U. S. School of Music offering exercises in practical finger control. Also included is a letter and pamphlet from the Department of National War Services calling Joe Gibson for military training under the National Resources Mobility Act of 1940, and a form from Customs Newfoundland that notes that Joe Gibson of the Royal Canadian Air Force navigated there with two men on their way to the United Kingdom.

John Gibson Correspondence

This subseries contains correspondences addressed to John B. Gibson of St. Andrews, New Brunswick, concerning the affairs of his sister Charlotte Gibson after her death. These include letters from Nicholson, Turner, White, Barristers and Solicitors concerning the estate of Charlotte Gibson and her will, and letters from S. O. Mehan & Son Funeral Home LtD. concerning the funeral services for Charlotte Gibson.

Legal Documents

This series contains legal documents associated with the Gibson family as well as the Town of St. Andrews. It includes documents related to the estate of Charlotte Gibson and her affairs after her death on March 9 2001, as well as documents related to dealings between John Gibson and the Canada Railroad Company concerning a release of interest on land that he owns. Also included are booklets related to residential building standards and the By-Laws of the Town of St. Andrews.

Charlotte Gibson Documents

This subseries contains legal documents related to the death of Charlotte Gibson from St. Andrews, New Brunswick. These include her will, a funeral directors statement of death, a Declaration of Claimant Indemnity for release of her assets held in Scotiabank, financial statements from Passamaquoddy Lodge related to her expenses, a list of her savings bonds and value of her personal property, and a statement from Nelson Monuments limited concerning her grave. Also contained in these documents is a land deed selling land from Robert Simpson and his family to Ada Greenlaw and her heirs and assigns.

John Gibson Documents

This subseries contains legal documents related to John B. Gibson of St. Andrews, New Brunswick, and his dealings with the New Brunswick and Canadian Railroad Company concerning land that he owns. These include multiple copies of a Release of Interest Document in favor of John B. Gibson, some with revisions to the terms of the deal.

Municipal Documents

This subseries contains two booklets related to municipal legal affairs. The first booklet is titled “Residential Standards, Canada 1965, Supplement No. 5 to the National Building Code of Canada” which is meant to contain all regulations for the control of residential construction in Canada. The second booklet is titled “By-Laws of the Town of St. Andrews” which contains a detailed listing of local St. Andrews By-Laws for 1937.

Notes

This series contains notes related to Joe Gibson’s studies as well as work managed by John Gibson. Joe Gibson’s notes include schoolwork and assignments done while he was in Grade 11, as well as his notes from when he was trained to be a pilot by the Royal Canadian Air Force. John Gibson’s notes are contained in a pair of booklets which list information related to his work as a stonemason.

Joe Gibson's Schoolwork

This subseries contains notes used by Joe Gibson of St. Andrews, New Brunswick, for his Grade 11 courses, including Chemistry, French, Algebra, and Physics, as well as a few assignments on those subjects. Also included is his Royal Canadian Air Force notebook, which contains his notes on learning how to fly a plane as part of his training to fight with the R. C. A. F. overseas during the Second World War.

Time Books

This subseries contains two time books used by John B. Gibson of St. Andrews, New Brunswick as part of his work as a stonemason working on various historic properties in St. Andrews. These date books list employee hours, expenses, and locations worked, which include the Shiretown Inn, the Algonquin Hotel, and the homes of some local families.
