George Currier

This fonds consists of a photocopy and a transcription of a diary written by George Currier, probably in 1850. It is a small pocket diary of the type designed for recording appointments and gives very brief notes of his social activities, the news of the day and his medical activities. Also included are notes on George Currier's life.

The captain's log fills most of the log book and gives sailing dates of the "Venus", weather conditions, departure points, and ports of call. The rest of the volume contains accounts in several different hands.

Smiths Creek burying ground

The fonds contains a copy of the deed from Samuel Gosline to the trustees of the public burying ground for the residents of Smiths Creek, dated 26 August 1850. Also included is a list of subscribers in connection with the clearing and fencing of the cemetery land (1853).

James Vroom

This fonds documents James Vroom's activities as an historian with a keen interest in the early history of New Brunswick, particularly that of Charlotte County. It also sheds light on his research activities and those of his friends and acquaintances, most notably W. O. Raymond, who were also interested in the history of the province.

The fonds consists of originals or transcriptions of letters, reports and other documents, dating to the late 18th and early 19th centuries, addressed to or written by prominent Loyalists, public officials and others, including Robert Pagan, Ward Chipman, John Jones, Sir Guy Carleton, Thomas Carleton, Governor Parr, Edward Winslow, Gillian Butler, Charles Morris, John Curry, and Bishop John Medley.

Also included are originals or transcriptions of documents relating to the Quakers that settled in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, the Fire Ward of St. Stephen (1852-1869), the by-laws of the St. Stephen Fire Department, the Passamaquoddy Indians, the Owen family of Campobello Island, the Botanical Club of Canada, the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel in Foreign Parts, imports at the port of St. Andrews, the public officials of Charlotte County, and the garrison at St. Andrews.

The fonds also contains a number of letters addressed to James Vroom, many from friends and acquaintances relating to research into various historical topics. There are also a number of articles, essays, or papers written by Vroom on historical and nature themes, including the history of freemasonry on the St. Croix, the War of 1812, indigenous flora, and the Penobscot Loyalists.

Also included are research notes on a number of subjects -- the Charlotte County Bank, the St. Stephen's Bank and Stagecoach Co., the clergy of the Church of England in Charlotte County, the postmasters of Charlotte County, local customs officials, benevolent societies, the St. Andrews Grammar School, the Charlotte County Agriculture and Immigration Society, the St. Andrews Savings Bank, the St. Andrews Chamber of Commerce, the St. Andrews Sunday School Society, the St. Andrews District Committee of the Society of Promoting Christian Knowledge, the St. Stephen Branch of the New Brunswick Auxiliary Bible Society, the Charlotte County Auxiliary Bible Society, the St. Andrews Ladies Association, other Bible Societies, the St. Andrews Marine Hospital, and the Commission of Buoys and Beacons.

Lastly the fonds includes scrapbooks of newspaper clippings, James Vroom's obituary, articles and publications by W. O. Raymond, and a few items pertaining to the Chipman Memorial Hospital, the St. Croix Tercentenary Committee, the Great War, and Christ Church (St. Stephen).

This fonds comprises 4 volumes of records -- 929, 930, 931, and 932. Only volumes 929, 930, and 931, described above, have been microfilmed.

Benjamin Marston letter

This letter describes the timber surveyed by Benjamin Marston on a journey between St. Ann's (Fredericton) and St. Andrews, New Brunswick in March 1785. Marston discusses the process of identifying trees for use by the British navy.

Benjamin Tibbets

This collection consists of records relating primarily to Benjamin Tibbets. It includes copies of photographs of a painting, "Landseer," by B. F. Tibbets; of the specifications of his invention (filed 22 June 1844); and of his 1845 petition to the Lieutenant-Governor of New Brunswick for the issue of a patent (diagram attached). It also includes copies of photographs of himself, Charles McFarlane, Henry McFarlane, and Mrs. McFarlane.

Also included are photocopies of Murray MacLaren's 1938 address to the York-Sunbury Historical Society entitled, "Benjamin Franklin Tibbets and his Work", along with copies of letters from Howden R. Balmain to MacLaren (1938) containing biographical and other information about Benjamin Franklin Tibbets.

This fonds contains the administrative records of the Red Bank Presbyterian Church, the Salmon Creek Presbyterian Church, the Chipman Presbyterian Church, and the Chipman United Church as well as records relating to church societies, organizations, and committees.

It consists of minutes of Sessions, minutes of congregational and Board of Trustee meetings, and church registers (communion rolls, baptisms, marriages, burials). Also included are minutes of the Women's Missionary Society, the United Church Women, and of the Red Bank Cemetery Committee as well as a pew rental book for the Salmon Creek church.

Jacob Ellegood letter : [1791]

Collection contains a photographic copy of a letter written in 1791 by Jacob Ellegood to James Parker, his brother-in-law, while Ellegood was in Saint John, N.B. The letter relates the decision Ellegood made to settle in New Brunswick and the details of the land and properties that he purchased in Fredericton, N.B., some of which were in the possession of Benedict Arnold. Ellegood complains of failing eyesight and a desire for comfort and security in his old age. He also outlines the plans he has for a modest investment in some unnamed business. Also consists of an original letter from Benedict Arnold to Ellegood regarding the sale of Arnold's furniture just prior to his departure for London in 1791.

This fonds consists of microfilmed copies of parish registers for St. Patrick's Church, South Nelson, dating from 1801-1826 (F1749, F8108); 1826-1858 (F3); 1859-1906 (F7895), and 1959-1972 (F1224) which record baptisms, marriages, and burials.

Microfilm reel no. F3 also contains a history of St. Patrick's Church.

The fonds consists of the records of Kirk-McColl United Church and both the founding churches. It includes registers of baptisms, marriages and burials, membership rolls and communicants' registers. There are minutes and financial records of the governing bodies of both churches. There are records of various church youth groups including the Young People's Society and C.G.I.T. (Canadian Girls in Training) and of women's groups including detailed records of a needle craft group, 1949-1989, United Church Women, Women's Missionary Society and Utopia Guild. There are photo directories and photographs of the church and some correspondence, especially about the rebuilding of the church in 1981. There is also a group of historical records which includes personal papers of Duncan McColl.
