Imperial Order Daughters of the Empire (IODE) provincial

  • CA PANB MC200
  • Fonds
  • 1900-2005

This fonds contains the records generated by the Provincial Chapter of the IODE, some records of the Primary Chapters as they report to the Provincial Chapter and a few items from the National Chapter, chiefly issues of "Echoes."

Included are records of the Provincial Executive Committee (Minutes, 1900-1999 etc.); the Annual Meetings (Minutes, Agendas, Reports) and Semi-Annual Meetings. Both the Membership and Financial records are extensive; the latter include War Service Accounts, 1939-1947. The IODE's close connection with educational institutions, issues of Human Rights and citizenship, and Clark House, the IODE Home for Seniors are all documented here. Correspondence can be found in almost any part of this fonds - but some of it does form a Series - mostly national correspondence - but included is a 1968 letter suggesting the IODE lose its distinct British connection, change its name and continue to do the same work other organizations do. The IODE's concern for its future with falling membership is also documented here.

Finally, a few IODE calendars (1919-1975) round out this fonds. Most interesting is the 1919 Calendar - which was printed by the DeMonts Chapter (Saint John) and contains quotations from New Brunswickers of note.

Photographs

  • SJJHM 6
  • Collection
  • 187- - present

The fonds includes mostly original photographs of various sizes and formats, including professional and amateur images. There are black and white copies and negatives for many pictures acquired before the mid 1990s; these were produced by the Heritage Branch, when funding for the duplication of photographs was readily available. These copies were used for displays in the Museum. More recently photographs have been digitally scanned and stored electronically – this is particularly the case for photographs which have been loaned to the museum for brief periods of time for exhibits or research.
