Hubbard family

This fonds consists of family papers including estate and land title documents, personal correspondence of both William and Nathaniel and private financial records. Many records created by Nathaniel in the course of his work are also present, including court books (1826-1860) for Sunbury Co. containing 560 petty civil cases (Hubbard as magistrate); working files of Nathaniel Hubbard as supervisor of public works, including his accounts and reports of construction and repair of Great Road from Nashwaak to Finger Board (ca. 50 miles); and work with the provincial government, commissioners, surveyors, contractors, and labourers in road and bridge work, 1825-1856. There are also working files of Nathaniel Hubbard as commissioner for Gagetown Canal, 1840-1844;

Records created by both father and son as magistrate and registrar of Sunbury Co. include property records for Burton, Lincoln, Maugerville, Sheffield and other parishes and marriage licenses and bonds for Sunbury Co. residents, 1788-1826. There are also documents belonging to Richard Floyd (New York and Maugerville), 1738-1784; and a journal, Rev. Samuel Clarke in account with Leveritt DeVeber, 1831-1842;

This fonds documents the professional career of civil engineer Henry George Clopper Ketchum, particularly with respect to the building of railway lines in Canada and Brazil and the construction of the Chignecto Ship Railway. It also contains biographical information about him as well as business records pertaining to a general store presumably operated by members of the Ketchum family at Fredericton.

It includes incoming and outgoing correspondence, reports, minutes, specifications, estimates, contracts, schedules, maps, surveys, plans, blueprints, photographs and negatives. It also includes papers on engineering subjects, engineering notes, diagrams, essays, and articles and newspaper clippings about the Chignecto Ship Railway.

Hannah Flood lot certificate

The fonds consists of a lot certificate given to Hannah Flood in 1837. It is for lot 35 in the southeast range in Willow Grove, Loch Lomond. The certificate was given by the body responsible for administration of Crown grants to the Black refugees. It is unclear whether Hannah Flood had actually purchased the land.

Chaloner family

The fonds consists of family records. There are two lot certificates for land on Germain Street, dated 1783, belonging to John Chaloner (lot 553) and Benjamin Chaloner (lot 554). There is a commission of 1827 appointing Benjamin Chaloner tide surveyor, gauger, and weightmaster in Saint John. There is also a bond, dated 1828, given by Ninyon Chaloner to Benjamin C. Chaloner, executor of John Chaloner's estate. It bound Ninyon to ensure that Peggy, a Black woman who had been the late John Chaloner's servant, received comfortable care during her lifetime and at her death, a decent burial at Ninyon's expense.

This collection documents the Duke's military activities at Gibraltar, Canada, and the West Indies. The majority of the correspondence is between Prince Edward and Colonel, later General, William Edmeston, however, there are a few letters to Edmeston from other military officers and administrators including I. Hale, G. Smyth, John Montrifor, G.H. Charlton, I.A. Vesey, and Lieutenant Colonel Scott. The letters were written from various locations: Gibraltar, Quebec, Halifax, St. Helen's, Hilsea, London, and Antrim and discuss the 50th Regiment of Foot and the Royal Fusiliers. The collection also contains two separate lists containing the names, age and height of soldiers transferred between the 50th Regiment of Foot and the Royal Fusiliers, one is dated 20 May 1791 and the other is undated; a three-page account, dated 11 April 1793, detailing a plot planned by four soldiers from the Royal Fusiliers to murder Prince Edward; and a copy of a four-page narrative, written on 20 February 1798, giving details of the battle fought by the Grenadiers of the 40th Regiment when the islands of Martinique, Grenada, St. Vincent, St. Lucia, and Tobago were taken during the Seven Years War.
