Enquiry into the Empress of Ireland

This fonds consists of 4 bound volumes of typescripts and 1 folder dealing with the commission into the wreck of the "Empress of Ireland."

The 4 bound volumes are one of the sets of original copies made for the members of the commission and contain the verbatim evidence heard by the enquiry. Volume 1 - (2 copies) 16-19 June 1914 includes typed alphabetical index of volumes I and II. Volume III, 26-27 June 1914, includes the closing arguments. There is also a file folder including a certificate of appointment of commissioners; a photograph of commissioners, and a copy of a map prepared by Captain Kendall showing the course of the "Empress" and the supposed course of the "Storstadt".

Freeman Hale Todd family fonds

This collection contains documents pertaining to Freeman Hale Todd's business ventures, including his logging and lumber business along the St Croix River Region, as well as his merchant and grocery businesses. These include account books, promissory notes, receipts and documents related to shipping as well as deeds, indentures, mortgages, assignments of land and insurance policies. There are also wills, family papers and matters relating to Probate that pertain to Freeman Hale Todd's estate after his death on 9 September 1885. Documents involving a co-partnership between Ninian Lindsay Todd and F. H. Todd & Sons are also included. Freeman Hale Todd's election address from when he was elected in 1865 as a candidate opposing the Confederation of New Brunswick with Canada also fall under the scope of this collection. There are also some documents related to his eldest son Frank Todd which include promissory notes, receipts, correspondences, and mortgages related to his business ventures and investments in Maine and New Brunswick.

This collection consists of the correspondence relating to railway history involving requests for information on specific trains to/from George Brown. Some correspondence is printed with company letterhead. A few pieces of correspondence have documents attached which relate to railway history. There is a letter referring to a trip around the world by Nellie Bly, a New York City newspaper reporter with the remark that some portions of her trip were done by train.

George Rogers family

Fonds reflects the lives, careers, and military services of George Rogers and his family. Fonds consists of various textual records and photographs from the George Rogers family of Sackville, New Brunswick. It includes letters between family members; newspaper clippings about the family; and photographs of the family home and activities of George, his two wives, and their 13 children. The fonds also consists of a letter from Karen Eames in 2018 that accompanied the rest of the fonds documenting her knowledge of the Rogers side of her family.

Grand Manan Ferry Collection

This collection contains 18 original enlarged photos of many ferries that serviced Grand Manan Island, New Brunswick from 1930 - 2010, some are mounted in professional scrapbooks. There are 3 cm of original newspaper articles in chronological order of stories about the ferry service. Two compact disks contain memories of the final voyages of The M.V. Grand Manan in service from 1965 to 2010. One compact disk was used on the official final voyage of the ferry as a part of the program and has a video of many ferry photos with the crew singing the song The Grand Manan playing in the background. The other compact disk has 200 images of the life on The Grand Manan with the crew featured doing their daily routines. Of the 200 images 45 were printed off for reference. As an index, there are 6 photo pages with thumbnail size photos of all 200 images.

New ferries arrived in 1965 and 1990 and 2010.

This collection contains photocopies of materials relating to the proposed construction of the Halifax to Quebec railway: It includes correspondence relating to the proposed railway, including a letter to the Right Honourable Lord Monteagle from Richard Brown, Bart. dated 15 August 1853; Crown revenues, North America, 1830-1833; and extracts from the "Morning Post," dated 11 August 1853.

Hatch family fonds

This fonds consists of correspondence, records of commissions and appointments and accounting records pertaining to the Hatch family of Charlotte County, New Brunswick. The correspondence contains references to the war of 1812, the St. Andrews and Québec Railway, and the trading patterns of New Brunswick. There are several letters by David Owen about his affairs on Campobello Island.

With the exception of an account book of Christopher Hatch's affairs on Campobello Island, the bulk of the records belonged to Harris Hatch and his son. Records dated after 1894 concern the estate of Harris H. Hatch and his executor, Edmund Coakley.

Intercolonial Railway fonds

This fonds consists almost entirely of traffic department shipping receipts and waybills from the railway station at Saint John, 1881-1901 as well as some routine administrative correspondence. There is also a photocopy of the Intercolonial and Prince Edward Island Railway: Rules, Regulations and Rates of Pay, 1913. A ledger from the Canadian Eastern Railway contains a copy of the waybills for goods sent from various stations between Fredericton and the Miramichi. It records the station, sender, consignee and the nature of the goods, 1902-1904. An Intercolonial Railway log book records the arrival of trains at Marysville station, giving the number of the train, its direction, time of arrival and name of the conductor from 1915-1916. There are also two Sussex station books from 1904-1909.

Fonds reflects the business relating to Sackville, New Brunswick of the Intercolonial Railway and the ICR’s daily operations. Fonds consists of an Intercolonial Timetable from 1889 (including a page for Sackville, New Brunswick) and five Intercolonial Railway waybills dated 1887-1889 that detail goods and merchandise to be transported from Saint John, New Brunswick to Sackville, New Brunswick to be delivered to residents including K.R. Fawcett, E. Reed, H.N. Knight, and Miss L. Rayworth. (17/44)
