Jarvis family

This fonds consists of legal, business, and personal records relating primarily to Munson Jarvis, his son William Jarvis, his grandson William Munson Jarvis or members of their families.

The bulk of the fonds consists of hundreds of personal and business letters addressed to John Murray Bliss, Albinia Boyd, Amelia Janetta Haviland, Mary Caroline Boyd Jarvis, Edward Boyd, Isabella Jane Boyd, Jane Barclay Boyd, Jane Boyd, John Boyd Sr., John Boyd Jr., Anna Maria Jarvis, Mary Rowe Boyd, James William Boyd, Helen Leith B. Brecken, Frederick de St. Croix Brecken, Robert Fraser Hazen, William Hubbard, William Jack, Edward James Jarvis, Henry Fitzgerald Jarvis, Munson Jarvis, Ralph Munson Jarvis, Samuel Jarvis, Stephen Jarvis, William Jarvis, or William Munson Jarvis.

Business records include Munson Jarvis' account books for various transactions, some of which record names of customers and items sold; insurance on vessels; rentals of stoves, bellows, and anvils; stock in his shop; and wages of workers and servants.

Personal records include William Munson Jarvis' lecture and research notes on New Brunswick history and the development of the Church of England in New Brunswick; his addresses, lectures, and speeches on various religious themes including Sunday schools; correspondence pertaining to religious issues; and printed religious material primarily relating to the Church of England and its societies. They also include Jarvis genealogical material, correspondence relating to the New Brunswick Rifle Association, William Munson Jarvis' grammar school reports and attendance cards, and newspaper clippings.

Davidson family

This fonds consists of material from the practice of three generations of Newcastle (Northumberland County) lawyers, chiefly Allan A. Davidson, Jr. The legal documents reflect solicitor's work rather than civil litigation or criminal presentation. It includes material about expropriation by the Intercolonial Railway / Canadian National Railway and the forestry activities of Fraser Company. There are family documents, financial records and land records from 1795 to 1950. An account book belonging to Henry Gerrish, 1837-1840, is included as are the letterbooks of John Ambrose Street, Street & Kerr and Street & Davidson. There is also a journal of John Ambrose Street's voyage to England, 1817-1819.

This fonds consists of Pickard family receipts, deeds, bonds and accounts and newspaper clippings of a series of articles about the Pickard papers written by Gerald Keith in 1953 and updated in 1975. Included with the fonds is the record of meeting of inhabitants of Maugerville in 1770.

This volume contains three hand-written sermons based on the 8th, 9th and 10th Commandments. There is a note that one was preached at the consecration of the St. John Church. The name of the place where the church was located has not been deciphered.

Knight family

Fonds consists of family correspondence, financial records, deeds and memorabilia. Of particular note are two account books begun in Pennsylvania before the American Revolution and continued in Canada. There is a daybook, 1774-1821, including the names of people in the Quaker community, their purchases (e.g. flour, pork) and entries for blacksmith work done for them. Another account book, 1774-1825, includes accounts of individuals in the community for repairs, purchases and their pay for work. There are deeds for family properties, 1825-1867, and legal records, 1842-1909, including estate papers pertaining to Joshua Knight's guardianship of Bessie Knight Hilliard's children.

The genealogical material, 1814- 1971, includes correspondence and charts relating to the Knight, Vernon, Prescott and other related families, also copies of wills of Isaac Knight and copy of patent and deeds of Elizabeth Shorter, an ancestor who was believed to have received them from William Penn. There are also family history notes by Bertha Carson and background material about the towns connected to the family history, 1940-1962, assembled by Marion Tuttle. Also included are family correspondence,1840-1850, a collection of post cards, press clippings and memorabilia.

There is a diary kept by Henry Nase from the day he enlisted in King's American Regiment (1776) until after he had moved to Westfield (1797). There is also a minute book of Nerepis Sunday School kept by Philip Nase,1858-1862, and a diary of A. Estelle Nase, 1926-1930.
