Colter family

The fonds contains primarily the business records of Alexander Colter and his son, George Colter. There are bonds received and issued, mortgages, election clippings, bank balances, commercial and legal records, and personal letters, including a few from George's son, Ashley. There are some small notebooks containing miscellaneous accounts, a surveyor's notes and diary entries. There is also a set of McKillop's "Commercial and Legal Record," a circular published weekly in Saint John from 1894-1896. An account book for an unknown business concern, probably a sawmill, dated 1829-1845, is also included.

This fonds consists of a folder of documents that were once kept in a three-ring binder. The documents appear to have been used to estimate the cost of parts and labour for manufacturing wagons by the McFarlane Wagon Company. There are lists of the prices of raw materials and parts, with detailed notations of the time taken to build specific parts of wagons. Also included are some detailed designs for wagons and wagon parts for many different purposes, such as the Cornwallis slovens, sloven wagons, farm wagons, crank wagons, spring slovens, gigger wagons, grocery express wagons, lumber trucks, mill wagons, and dump wagons. Sometimes the name of the customer who ordered the wagon is given. Some of the designs are signed with the initials J.W. McF., probably for James Walter McFarlane. A few invoices from suppliers and lists of materials purchased from suppliers are also included.

The fonds consists of incoming and outgoing correspondence with various individuals including Louis J. Robichaud and Robert Stanfield, reports, briefs, memoranda, invitations to events, receipts, pamphlets, brochures, and booklets.

It also includes newspaper articles by Robert Pichette, information pertaining to the Liberal Party policy platform (1970), speech notes, and biographical information on Robert Pichette, Patricia Ruth Robert-Pichette, and other individuals.

It also includes files relating to the attempt to establish a new French Language Daily (L'Acadie Nouvelle) and two flags, the 1964 standard from the Premier's car and a sample of a flag for the Republic of Madawaska (République du Madawaska)

This fonds consists of materials dealing with estates, investments and sales. It also includes records of insurance and debt collection. The files of E. C. Coster (1904-1905) include the estate of Bishop Binney. The files of H. A. Brittain (1906-1916) include the estates of the Binney, Hamilton, Odell, Coster and Bliss families. The files of J. H. Fairweather and P. R. L. Fairweather (1917-1919) include various estate files and the files of A. C. Fairweather and Sons, insurance agents (1919).

The fonds contains ledger books from the Fish family businesses, including the blacksmith shop ledger, day accounts, invoice books, stock books and cash expenditure books. Some detail financial specifics for their blacksmithing interest, others record the details of the general merchandise store and the lumber yard holdings.

This fonds consists of records pertaining to the proposed construction of stone buildings at Miramichi, Northumberland County, New Brunswick. Included are the specifications for a guard house, cook house, privies, and well [1827]; a letter addressed to Captain Douglas, Fredericton, from G. Graydon, Captain Royal Engineers, dated at Fredericton, 11 July 1827, enclosing these plans for a subaltern detachment at Miramichi; an estimate for the barracks at Miramichi; and a hand-drawn architectural plan of the proposed subaltern barracks by G. Graydon, dated 1827.

Dunham and McDougall family

This collection documents the business and personal activities of members of the Dunham and McDougall families, particularly David E. Dunham. It includes Samuel Dunham's book of timber surveys (1846-1849) in the parish of Hampstead and shoemaker Jonathan McDougall's cash book (1850-1853) and ledger (1851-1859) reflecting the trade conducted in his shops at Port Hope and Wickham.

There are also architect David E. Dunham's account books, order books, and cash accounts (1872-1883); an office diary kept by one of his draftsmen, possibly Arthur Anderson; advertisements for Dunham's firm, giving qualifications and a partial list of buildings designed by him; several architectural plans for and photographs of his buildings; and accounts for private buildings.

Lastly, the fonds contains 7 school exercise or copybooks (1844-1861) belonging to David Elson Dunham, Mary Ann McDougall, James Norman McDougall, or Jessie McDougall; a story by Mary Ann McDougall (1860); family photographs of the Dunhams and McDougalls; family history notes compiled by Mrs. J. S. Vanderploeg; and a typed transcript of a letter from schoolmaster John C. Thompson of Stanley to Jonathan McDougall of Gagetown (1838).
