This subseries contains a few different advertisements, including a form from the First Realty Company of New Brunswick Limited showing information on a house in St. Andrews being sold by the estate of Laura Webb, a business card directory for Charlotte County for 1997, an advertisement for enlarging negatives, and a booklet titled “The Ripley Patent Perfect Fireplace Damper by the G. R. Locker Co.” which contains notes on this company’s new fireplace damper.

Booklets

This subseries contains a few published booklets, which includes Vol. X No. 12 (June 1890) of the Independent Forrester, a publication of a fraternal and benefit society which contains news related to that society. Also included are a small red booklet titled “Exhibits and Evidence from the Office of the Fire Marshall, Fredericton, NB” which contains articles meant to help NB firemen prevent arson and deal with witnesses and evidence, as a well as a pamphlet titled “Notes for the General Information and Guidance of the Next-of-Kin or other Relatives of Airmen Reported Missing, Deceased, Prisoners of War, or Interned” which contains notes on how the affairs of these Airmen will be handled in various situations.

Charlotte Gibson Documents

This subseries contains legal documents related to the death of Charlotte Gibson from St. Andrews, New Brunswick. These include her will, a funeral directors statement of death, a Declaration of Claimant Indemnity for release of her assets held in Scotiabank, financial statements from Passamaquoddy Lodge related to her expenses, a list of her savings bonds and value of her personal property, and a statement from Nelson Monuments limited concerning her grave. Also contained in these documents is a land deed selling land from Robert Simpson and his family to Ada Greenlaw and her heirs and assigns.

Correspondence

This series contains correspondence addressed to various members of the Gibson Family of St. Andrews, New Brunswick. Most of the letters are letters of sympathy for the death of World War II Pilot Joe Gibson. This series also contains Joe Gibson’s letters from overseas, as well as more recent letters addressed to John Gibson concerning the affairs of Charlotte Gibson.

Effie Gibson Correspondence

This subseries contains letters addressed to Effie Gibson of St. Andrews, New Brunswick. Most of the letters in this subseries concern her son Joe Gibson, a pilot with the Royal Canadian Air Force during the Second World War. These include letters home from Joe Gibson and letters of sympathy from friends after his death. There are also many letters from Kathleen Waters from Vancouver, British Columbia, who was the mother of a member of Joe Gibson’s crew named Ken Waters. These letters often contain details of daily life in Canada during the Second World War, as well as first-hand accounts of notable events. These include an account of British prisoners of war from Japan arriving in Vancouver, and the stories they told about being in the Nagasaki Shipyards when the United States of America dropped the second atomic bomb on Japan, and an account of the Greenhill Park Explosion, a disaster involving a ship with improperly stored ammunition in Vancouver’s harbor. There are also correspondences with the Tierney family of Nova Scotia concerning the loss of Ralph Tierney, another member of Joe Gibson’s crew, and some correspondences with the Department of National Defense and the R. C. A. F. concerning Joe Gibson’s estate and legal affairs.

Gibson Family Daughters Correspondence

This subseries contains letters addressed to three of Effie Gibson and Joseph V. Gibson’s daughters. They are Charlotte Gibson, Phyllis Gibson, and Elsie Gibson. Quite a few of the letters in this collection are from friends of the three daughters offering sympathy for the loss of their brother Joe Gibson. There are also many letters addressed to Phyllis and Charlotte Gibson from Kathleen Waters of Vancouver, British Columbia. She was the mother of Ken Waters, a member of Joe Gibson’s crew. Her letters often concern life in Canada during the Second World War and personal events.

This collection contains correspondences, documents, photos, and other types of material related to Joseph and Effie Gibson and their descendants. Most of the correspondence in this collection concerns Joe Gibson, a Royal Canadian Air Force pilot and oldest son of Joseph and Effie Gibson. Many photos of him and his crewmates, his letters home from overseas, as well as his schoolwork and notes from leaning how to fly an aircraft are also included in this collection. Several items which concern the affairs of John Gibson, Joe Gibson’s younger brother, can be found in this collection. These include correspondences and legal documents related to the estate of Charlotte Gibson, his sister, as well as an agreement between John Gibson and the Canada Railroad Company concerning interest and his land. Most of the personal items and published material in this collection belonged to John Gibson as well, these include publications related to his position as a volunteer firefighter, reports of organizations he belonged to, maps of the Town of St. Andrews, notes related to his work as a stonemason, and other items.

Joe Gibson Correspondence

This subseries contains letters addressed to Joe Gibson. It includes some personal correspondences from his friends and a few mail-in offers, such as an offer for an analysis of Joe’s handwriting, an offer of a course to improve his voice from the Perfect Voice Institute, and one from the U. S. School of Music offering exercises in practical finger control. Also included is a letter and pamphlet from the Department of National War Services calling Joe Gibson for military training under the National Resources Mobility Act of 1940, and a form from Customs Newfoundland that notes that Joe Gibson of the Royal Canadian Air Force navigated there with two men on their way to the United Kingdom.

Joe Gibson's Letters Home

This file contains correspondences written by Joe Gibson addressed to his parents in St. Andrews, New Brunswick, concerning his experiences overseas as a pilot in the Royal Canadian Air Force. These letters include details on his time living in the United Kingdom, operations to watch for German U-Boats, and his friends in the R. C. A. F.

Joe Gibson's Schoolwork

This subseries contains notes used by Joe Gibson of St. Andrews, New Brunswick, for his Grade 11 courses, including Chemistry, French, Algebra, and Physics, as well as a few assignments on those subjects. Also included is his Royal Canadian Air Force notebook, which contains his notes on learning how to fly a plane as part of his training to fight with the R. C. A. F. overseas during the Second World War.
